Description The Extremophile Pokémon
"The energy from evolution has allowed them to multiply from two to four. Working together, they fight by spewing a scalding, toxic steam laced with chemicals filtered from the undersea vents they claim as their territory."
"Though most comfortable in the deep sea, their protective lava covering makes them just as capable closer to shore. Their combined power is unbeatable, but they have a hard time breathing unless immersed in water."

Type: Water/Fire
Height: 6'4"
Weight: 265 lbs
Ability: Multi-Target*/Poison Heal (Water Heater*)
Evolution: BAENTHERM  --> Level-up near underwater lava or while holding a Magmarizer --> HYDRATHORM
Egg Groups: Water 3

Basis: A colony of giant tube worms, with some elements of deep sea hydrothermal vents, undersea volcanos, the Lernaean Hydra, and the trope in tokusatsu films of a giant monster being created by combining several smaller ones.
Name Origin: HYDRoTHeRMic+HydrA+wORM/oORM

Moves Learned: Same as BAENTHERM, with added moves Muddy Water, Eruption, and Lava Plume. Scald and Steam Eruption are now starting moves.
Notable Other Moves: Same as BAENTHERM.

Base Stats:

HP: 135

Attack: 60

Defense: 70

Sp. Atk: 105

Sp. Def: 105

Speed: 20

TOTAL: 495

* Multi-Target: Allows attacking moves which normally hit only one target to hit all adjacent foes.

* Water Heater: Water-type moves have a chance of causing burns. (Note: The effects of Scald - 30% chance of burn - are now applied to every Water-type move. Scald itself guarantees a burn, as does Steam Eruption.)

NOTE: Hydrathorm's back has four protrusions, as shown here:  sta.sh/01sow3n4as5u

5/5/20 UPDATE: New design!

As with Bentherm before her, Hydrathorm is now new and improved, with more lava, more mobility, and an outline that isn't half-assed and amateur-ish! The concept for this new design is taken directly from my own 151 Fire-Type Concepts  posted just today; the worms now function in the same way as Barbaracle's components, only instead of a humanoid with razor-sharp shells for claws, it's a lava-armored kaiju made of worms (though I had to cut down the number of heads from six to four for simplicity; here's an earlier draft with two extra worms). A "worm that walks", if you will. All of the changes made to Bentherm's worm bits were applied to the worms for this stage as well, though I also added some spiky bits to the gills/head coverings of the main heads and the one on the tail so the silhouette would look more unique. I also considered a protrusion or two of the same shape on the back as well, but I couldn't get it to look right, and making it into wing-like fins overcomplicated the design, so I just settled with two rock spikes on the back instead.

These remakes were a lot of fun to draw and color, and I'm especially proud of the way I shaded the lava. There isn't any gameplay change to speak of, thankfully, but now that this multi-headed terror can actually move (extremely slowly, sure, but still), all shall tremble before her!

A bit late due to IRL things that have come up, but here's Hydrathorm, the deep-sea worm hydra of doom! I'm quite happy with how this design turned out~

As previously noted, one of the fakemon designs I've wanted to do was a Water/Fire deep-sea tube worm which thrives near undersea geothermal vents, which evolves into a colony of worms acting like some kind of multi-headed monstrosity - in the vein of both the mythical hydra and the cnidarians known as hydras (formally hydrozoans) which also live colonially on the seafloor. Now, I'm aware that this concept was already done under the name Hydratherm , which was taken from Bogleech's "100 Real Organisms Begging to be Pokémon ", but I suppose we could chalk it up to the same base concept, since there isn't much you can do with such a simplistic creature as it is. Still, while the similarities are coincidental, I decided to change the name of mine slightly to avoid confusion. Multiple heads aside, Hydrathorm hasn't changed very much herself, but she's got some lovely sets of frills inspired by the feathery plumes on the free ends of actual giant tube-worms which they use to respire and feed. More importantly, the rock she lives in is now leaking super-hot lava! It actually didn't have lava initially but when I did the flavor I decided to put it in the design as well, and I quite like how it turned out!

(And in case you think the lava adds too much complexity, here's an alternative version without it. )

For Hydrathorm's stats, I decided to take the model I'd established with Bentherm, an HP tank with solid special stats but awful, awful speed, and shuffle around Escavalier's stat spread to match. Escavalier, who takes Shelmet's shell upon evolving from Karrablast, has a stat spread of 70/135/105/60/105/20, but I switched the stats around so that Hydrathorm's HP is his 135 Attack, her Attack is his 60 Special Attack, her Defense is his 70 HP, and her Special Attack is his 105 Defense, while keeping her 105 Special Defense and 20 speed the same as his. The resultant BST, 495, is the same as that of Escavalier. She also benefits from a decent defensive type combination, with five resistances (three being common attacking types) but also weaknesses to three common offensive types to keep her from being invincible. As for her abilities, they're all flavor-based, but also useful - Poison Heal allows for free recovery with a Toxic Orb (assuming the opponent doesn't use Gastro Acid or the Mold Breaker ability), Water Heater allows her Water STAB to hobble opponents with burns, and Water Absorb from the pre-evo was replaced with the new Multi-Target, allowing her to hit everyone on the opposite side of the field and potentially dominate doubles and triples!

Hydrathorm is thus built much like Mantine or Gardevoir, being a heavy-duty special sponge with a strong special attack stat to back it up, but weak physical stats that can be taken advantage of with a good physical Rock, Ground, or Electric attack. The obvious choices of STAB are Scald, Surf, Overheat, Eruption, and Steam Eruption, all of which can be lethal to anything that doesn't resist Water or Fire - and their power can be boosted with either Calm Mind or Shell Smash, your choice. In case of Rock or Ground types, she also gets Absorb and Mega Drain for recovery, and also the powerful Energy Ball as a TM, which has the bonus of lowering the foe's Special Defense, and combining that with Multi-Target can allow her to bombard whole groups of opponents at once! Poison attacks like Sludge Bomb are an option as well, but don't cover her weaknesses and aren't really recommended unless you're up against a strong Fairy-type. Up against something hoping to boost their defenses against you and feeling confident in just your Water and Fire STAB? Use Shell Smash (bred from Cloyster or Omastar) to lower your own defense, then use Guard Swap to neuter their defenses, and go to town! Guard Swap itself is also a support option, but support just isn't her thing because she's terribly slow, so it's undoubtedly better for her to suck it up and take what's being thrown at her before retaliating with extreme prejudice. The worm has turned, gentlemen!

This is the last fakemon in my art backlog and the last I'll likely be posting this year, but hopefully I should be able to churn out some more soon enough after my latest art project. This has been a wonderful 2017, and I appreciate all of your support throughout my current progress with the Sundo fakedex. Now, onto 2018!

This one exemplifies exactly how I'd want a Water/Fire-type to be, not what we ended up getting back in 6th gen. Great design!

yooo that's cool!! It reminded me a lot of my worm dragon design(though the concept is a lil different) THe dragon worm I have is based off a "wyrm" and opening a can of worm, it's name is Cannowyrm and its design is based off the structure of the chinese word for worm, which is three "bug" characters stacked on top of each other :蟲   just thought I'd share!! I love this design a lot, though!

Oh poison heal! Great ability for a Pokemon based on an animal that literally eats poisonus gasses/smog/volcanic minerals.
