I LOVE BOKEH!
Funny you used it just now because I only just really learned about it a week ago or so. I'm trying to get the effect with my camera but I don't know how...even with googling it xD
Looks so pretty though!

Haha, it's always fun!
You can get the effect by setting your camera to the lowest f-stop. f/5-ish is pretty standard but check if you can go down to an f/2.8 or something. Then it's just a matter of making sure that there's a good range of depth within the frame -- that is, you need some well-lit objects quite close or quite far away. If your background is too close to your subject, you won't get the glorious bokeh effect.
In this image, I chose to put the gate and apple in focus, and have an out-of-focus bokeh effect on some close objects (branches and leaves in the foreground) and far objects (within the gate).
Hope that could help you, and good luck!

Yep, 2.7 is great. Defs keep it locked right there.
Christmas lights usually work really well. Natural light looks absolutely gorgeous if you can get it (a la *EliseEnchanted )
Welcome!

That sounds like a line from some kind of movie. Are you by any chance planning worldly travels too?

Not sure. I might. I'd really love to take a trip to Europe...
Though it's stupid because I need to save for school and whatnot, I still have the urge.

How does the song go? Something about it not being about the money? What I am trying to say: you are young now and you will probably never have a chance like this. Sure, when you have taken your courses, finished your school, got a job and can pay the bills you can travel the world. But then you are chained by so. Much. Responsibilities. Plus, it won't ever be the same experience when you travel as a 17/18 year old or when you travel in your late twenties, early thirties or even later. I don't know how it goes in your country, but over here they have a social loan scheme (does that make sense? Google translate tends to come up with weird things) when it comes to university and the like. You don't pay interest over the money you had to loan for it. So what I am going to do is travel as much as I can between my 18th and 19th year and then go study anyways.
Also, you should totally come to Europe. We have awesome culture and stuff.
Also also, where are you from then?

Haha, Jessie J, Price Tag. "It's not about the money, money."
That's how I'm feeling. It may be foolish, but I'd really like the experience.
And we do have student loans and whatnot, yes. I'll have to figure out how I'm planning on securing funds. I'd like to go to art school in the USA, so I'm not sure. And I'd also love to study in Florence or England as well. But that's all very complicated...
I'm from Canada, which is a good deal of fun, but I'm a bit bored over here.

Yes, that's the one I mean. I would say: go for it. Of course it's wise to save up on forehand, but you shouldn't feel limited by that. Also, you should definetely pursue a career in art: you are very creative and talented.
It's funny, I was in Florence just a few days ago. You're a bit unlucky to be born outside of the European Union, because for me it is so much easier. I can practically enroll in every European university I want. Wouldn't be for art though, haha. It's also easier for me because I'll be finished with school when I'm seventeen and I can spend a year making money.
Awesome! I went there when I was eight and again when I was fourteen and I greatly enjoyed both times. My uncle practically dragged me all across Alberta.

I plan to! A couple friends and I had thought about trying to move to the UK, but it seems like it would be very difficult to actually get by without starving haha.
Yes, it would be glorious to live in Europe. So many countries so close together! It's a lot more diverse and rich in culture than Canada... I'm finished school as well, but since I'm injured right now, I'm not making any money... I'll be back at it soon, though.
Haha, you know what's really crazy? I live in Alberta. o_O

Hrmm yes, there lies a problem of course. Won't your parents be able to support you for a couple of years? You could always get some kind of job or something, but I don't know how much money you would need.
Well we're cheating of course. Culturewise you're back about, oh, 29400 years? That is not counting the indian cultures of course, those are at least as diverse. It's really too bad of your injury, having to sit still is awful. How does your scholar system work then? You come across as a smart person, and over here the smart people have to go to school for about 14 years so most of them are around eightteen when finished.
No way! Don't tell me you live in Calgary, because then it would be getting really freaky. You know what is really crazy as well? Alberta is about thirteen times the size of my country.

My parents won't support me, no. They expect me to figure things out myself haha. I would need a work visa and whatnot, I think. Yeah, it would be complicated, but I think it would be so cool.
Haha, yep, Canada is way behind. We do 12 years of school, and most people finish at 18, but I'm just a tad younger, so I graduated at 17.
And I actually live right outside Edmonton, about 3 hours from Calgary. The world is smaller than you'd think hahaha.

That's another way to look at it I guess. It would be double so cool when you would actually succeed. You should totally come to Holland too. We have good food, haha.
You don't start at four years old then? Being younger is nice. Gives you more time in some way.
Wow, that's really crazy! I think I might even have been there!

SkarValidus In reply to Mith-cest-Moi [2011-09-24 21:07:58 +0000 UTC]
Oh, if I ever live there, I will ABSOLUTELY go everywhere I can!
And we have a year of preschool and a year of kindergarden, but those aren't really "school" per se. We start official school in Grade 1, and graduate after Grade 12. I agree, being young is nice. I know people graduating at 19, and that sucks. I also know people graduating at 16 and going to university (Only one person, actually. She's crazy.).
It is super-crazy!
