Description An old shot that I recently found on my computer. Any comments, or suggestions are welcome and appreciated.

- Edit 10/29/06 -

I took some peoples suggestions and did my best to fix some things. Unfortunatly I was unable to really change the underexposure in the foreground, tho I still think this looks a lot better.

Thanks to everyone who gave me their input, hope you enjoy.

The haze created by the fog really empathizes the light filtering in through the clouds.

(Favs) This is a nice shot ^^

wow ! this is so beautiful !
I like it as it is, really. With that darkness on foreground it has a stronger contrast so the yllow lake looks more powerful to me
I like it for looking that smooth too and the subtils sunbeams...well... I would say everyhting there is as I love it all ! But again, how you've frame the subject (scape) is wonderful

i love this picture. it reminds me of when i was little, and i used to think when you'd see rays from the sun off the clouds, id think it was angels. haha. it just reminds me of when i used to look at the sky and think of angels.

anyway, i love the color of this picture, i think this is a really good picture for someone who is just starting photography. i love the composition of this picture, great job

amazing shot, I love the balance between light and shadows, specially the rays of light at the left and the tree on the right covered in shadows, and also the golden hue of the photograph, it gives it a very special feeling that's quite nice

really beautiful work, congrats

i think the border is a bit too overpoweringly big.
the photo itself is really nice. very deep and soft.

I think this is a gorgeous landscape. In my view, landscapes are some of the most difficult photos to take

Asides, I think it is a little bit dark but everything else is great

thanks I've been doing some reading on HDR photography which helps to fix over/underexposure of scenes like this. I'll make sure to try it out next time.

Oooh, I'd love to find out about HDR. It sounds complicated though

skdal In reply to Ellie-the-dreamer [2006-10-31 02:08:43 +0000 UTC]

well basically it works like a graduated filter. you take multiple pictures of the same scene with different exposure levels. then combine them all to make one perfectly exposed photo in both the dark and bright areas.

with this shot here, i think a graduated filter would have been enough to bring out the detail in the clouds and also the detail in the foreground.

Great work... this is a really nice capture, I love the soft focus and the exposure's great. The composition's spot on too.

Some suggestions I have are to crop the cloud cover at the top since it's a bit monotonous and boring, and the underexposed bottom off so the bottom bank of the river is at the left bottom corner, as a result you'll have a stunning panaramic picture in my opinion!

As to fixing the underexposure, what you can do is a HDR with photoshop, which is pretty much taking two identical shots with different exposures and blending the desired portions in the shop.

Very good work though... keep it up!

I think your croping ideas are great and they would create a really nice looking panoramic view. although, i think the resolution is too small for it to really look as good as it could.

thanks very much for your comments and suggestions

Well seen and beautiful capture. Sun rays are always beautiful!

I might suggest that you either decide to expose the foreground or choose to silhouette it completely. You could do this by using photoshop to select the area of the foreground and boosting the curves/exposure (click control+u on windows).

What a gorgeous photograph Just awesome!

If I had one suggestion it would be to take off the name there on the photo mat. It's very distracting and shucks the words pale in comparison to the photo.

This is a fantastic shot! Really a mix of textures in this one, soft in the sky and on the hill in the upper left, smooth on the water, and rough on the hill in the foreground. Looks like the foreground is a bit underexposed, but it doesn't detract from the overall image. Very expansive!

Thanks very much for your comments and . One question tho. How would I be able to fix the underexposed area in the foreground?

Thanks again

You're welcome. Hehe, you're asking the wrong person for that one. The only thing I do to my pictures after scanning them is resize them and add a frame... I wouldn't even know where to begin.
