Hey there everyone! ^^Here I am with my prompt for day 14 of this amazing Dark Crystal inktober ^^
The prompt itself was gloriously ambiguous, so I had to figure out what I wanted to relate tothe word "Pretend" in the Dark Crystal lore...
I ultimately decided to turn it into a small one-frame joke on itself, since at the Dark Crystal AU I work in, skeksis are forbidden by law to share any kind of "affective bonds" with each other (if such idea does ever cross their minds
), since the old Emperor intends to keep his strong hold on the throne and fears if his courtiers were ever to ever truly bond and commit to each other, they would conspire more actively -and effectively- against him! Not to even mention the idea of any of them perhaps managing to produce an offspring, which could dethrone him once it grows old and strong enough. All logic indicates that such thing woud never happen, since the skeksis, being halves of a whole, are infertile and unable to create new life. However, preferring to not let the slightest chance for it to happen, SkekSo keeps an iron claw upon his banning Laws.
So...sorry about the ramble, I just thought this was worthy to be put in context XD
This is what the Illustrator gets for thinking she could get away with sharing a brief hug with the Chamberlain at the Library- which she deemed safe since the Historian had left the place moments ago.
SkekOk, however, does have the bad habit of dropping by when it's least convenient (for everyone else! XD ) and he returned immediately, much to the Illustrator's dismay XD
I hope this tiny, silly joke will bring a smile upon your faces ^^

Now I'm kind of curious. If the elder is so against PDA of any kind because he fears breeding, then what does that say for the more rainbow side of the species? Unless skeksis are completely unaware of other sexualites other then just hetro.

*I do have a *long, slightly convoluted* answer for that
: in the Headcanon I manage *heavily based off what the original designs and concepts for the skeksis were, back then in the 80's* their entire species was implied to be hermaphroditical. That is, they'd all possess both male and female characteristics and reproductive organs (whether or not they were fertile is a subject of debate, though it had been also hinted by canon that they were all probably infertile.) They are, thus,both aware and unaware of the specter of sexualities: they all are literally both male and female, and choose to identify themselves in any manner they feel. *even if among them there seems to be an odd majoritary tendency to identify as male.
Now- the Emperor absolutely despises the idea of a new -young, strong- competitor to his Throne, hence why he condemns the notion of any type of "breeding activities" **he does it literally "just in case" : given their physical attributes, were any of his courtiers fertile, it could be literally ANY, or even ALL of them who could become pregnant with new life. Thanks to canon, we are aware that sucha thing would likely never happen, but the Emperor either ignores it, or is so paraniocally afraid of the mere idea, that his whim against it became nearly phobic, irrational.
As for whatever other bond/PDA the skeksis could develop with each other-and any physical manner of expressing it, they were banned as well, given that- also according to the old Emperor´s extremely paranoid way of thinking- his courtiers might begin to emotionally invest and attach to one another if he gave them freeway into such activities. In his twisted mind, he believed the other skeksis could start to develop stronger bonds and even genuine affection towards each other if they "coupled", and in doing that, they might be way more profecient into actively plotting his dethroning (Most of them did already scheme and plot into taking his Throne- the Emperor likely believed that in keeping his courtiers as emotionally/physically apart of each other as he could, he'd ensue their machinations to be hindered and more torpid- stopping them from actually working as small teams against him. Every skeksis tended to work into alliances, but then again, they all sought their own benefit into it. The Emperor's worst fear- besides of seeing a new competitor being born- was to see his courtiers bind to one another with serious attachment, and develop actual care for the other's benefit instead of only their own--thus pledging to work as true mini- units to destroy him or take his power. "Divide and conquer" as they say
