This is a (late
) Birthday gift for my friend !I had been wanting to draw his skeksis fan-character SkekSaZuul the Deadeater,in color, sice forever!
I had never had the gumption or courage to try it till now, and I think it was about time I did it!
HERE'S FOR YOU, CHERN! ^^
HAPPY -(late) BIRTHDAY, PAL!!!
I hope you like how Old SaZuul looks here! ^^
(SkekSaZuul himself is fully traditional, drawn and colored with ink , a white gel pen,and color pencils.Β
the background's just "brushed up" on Photoshop because I wanted to have the drawing doen already, and this old fellow looked like he NEEDED a stony cracked wall as a cool backdrop for him *and drawing it traditionally as usual would've taken me another day or day and half*
I hope my background-lazyness doesn't spoil the feels of the picture! ^^

He probably is! -since nevermind how vicious he may be, he's still a scientist/alchemist! he's very likely winding himself up into some deep thought ^^

According to his creator he was a mix of a scientist and an assssin, and ended up becoming an outcast soon since his experiments with life and death were considered dangerous and far too daring by the rest of the skeksis, some even being directly affected by them *according to SkekZaZuul's creator's AU ^^ *

Holy shit SkekLa! The more reptilian reinvention seems as organic as the original.
Β The color choices are perfect and are in complete harmony.
On a side note, if you have done all the foot work and fundamental design and labor
then use a digital medium as a "seasoning" or "packaging" you have done more then most (that's what I tell myself anywayΒ Β )

I tried to follow up Chern's own designs, which are more reptilian then birdlike! I really liked the result of this one! ^^

Yes!..What still troubles me is I'm not used (at all) to use digital edition, so I always fear I'm doing it wrong XD
In the case of this one I drew, inked and colored everything traditionally (which is the only thing I can do, too: I have no graphic tablet, nor Β modern softwre to allow me a really worthy editing or inking proccess, so I go about it old-school!
In this case I have , tho, used a background formed by a simple addition of a rock-brush and some lighting effects. I feel kind of ashamed since I'm used to go fully trad, but this was going to look much cleaner this way! ^^

Ultimately I agree with you, even when or if I have created a traditional digital hybrid that turn out well and looks very "finished",
i do not walk away with the same satisfaction that I do with completely hands on traditional work.

the other hand use programs like a 2 year old with crayons, but like
you, I taught myself to draw, so I figure at some point before I die

His creator states he's much of a Scientist/Alchemist/Temperer of biology and energy...although he ended up stuck with the title of DedEater after killing and devouring his own UrRu counterpart (although he had messed up with him in a metaphysical manner, which prevented the UrRu's spirit to completely abandon the place or be destroyed, hence remaining alive after committing his crime, nd being able to devour the physical form of his UrRu (while his poor spirit watched it in the shape of a disembodied spirit) and later use his bones to craft himself adornments to signal his victory.

I'm alright, pal!...my only problem is my job: it's literally eating my life!...I am attending a small local fair all sundays...I don't make great icomes but it is sufficing to survive (still must manage them to somehow grow in order to allow me fixing my house and my heath..I hope that'll happen soon enough! ^^ )
the thing is this rhytm of work requires me to constantly craf and sculpt things during al week to later go selling them on that fair on sundays. No rest...XDΒ
Stress and lack of time to do my own things and relax are killing me XD...

Indeed, he ended up looking quite raptor-like with his mottled bluish skin ^^
