#23: Stalfos

Because every Halloween needs a sword wielding skeleton! Much like Moblins, Stalfos have been around ever since the beginning and why not? While cliche, a skeleton warrior is a classic enemy and always poses a threat!

Now, also like the Moblins, Stalfos have changed constantly and drastically through the series, which seems kind of funny. I mean, they're just skeletons. You'd think they'd just kind of remain as is. Regardless, they've looked different several times, but I think my favorite is the way they looked in Skyward Sword.

Original is just too bland, (as is often the case) I didn't much care for the big chunky look they had in Ocarina of Time, and they're obnoxious laughter only made me hate them more so! And their Wind Waker looks were just so wacked-out retarded and I didn't like how they used clubs as opposed to swords.

In truth, when it came to Stalfos I actually thought of using the King of Ikana and his two soldiers to represent them, which although I liked and really wanted to use I declined for a few reasons. 1. I wanted to focus more on the monster itself, given the Stalfos long lineage I felt it should just be an iconic Stalfos. 2. I've already showcased Ocarina of Time and Majora's Mask a lot in this as is and haven't given Skyward Sword it's dues which it so rightfully deserves, so I kept this for a shout out to it. And 3... I REALLY didn't want to draw all three of those guys!

But, really, I feel Skyward Sword got it best. It's the most truthful to the original look of the Stalfos, while fleshing them out (no pun intended) They went back to dual-wielding swords and they had a very iconic, spooky look, as opposed to brutish or just fucking stupid. Also, Skyward Sword is easily the hardest game ever to fight Stalfos in. The motion controls against them make already dangerous enemies far more tedious and difficult, which gains them not only the respect of using their image, but he place they got in this countdown!
