Description For IB Studio Art I made a set on nine toys based on the animal spirits of different Native American cultures. Each animal's design is based on traditional art forms and myths from cultures it is strongly associated. Like some sort of weird education toy for the children of nerds? I have no idea about my thinking process behind all this, honestly.

Raven is the trickster god of the Pacific Northwest (where I am now). He holds the sun in his beak, because according to myth he brought light into the world by stealing sun the sun from the greedy chief that horded it. He is based on the art style of Kwagiutl and Haida prints and transformation masks. He is also the cutest.

Sculpey clay, acrylic paint, 3" tall

Thanks!

IB Studio Art is a class offered at high schools throughout the world as part of the "International Baccalaureate" program. It basically amounts to a college preparatory class with lots of strange requirements. My work will ultimately be graded by outside examiners and I will get a score for it, which could translate to college credit.

So pretty much: ridiculous class for high-level art students still in high school.
