Description
The Pale Drones are members of The Pale Throng.
The Pale Drones make up the backbone of the Pale Throng's military, and they outnumber all other Pale Throng Units combined. Despite this, they are seen as the lowest in the Pale Throng's ranks, often being given menial tasks, and given the least amount of luxury possible when it comes to living conditions. Pale Drones are designed to be effective for most situations, but to also be as expendable and cheaply produced as possible. This is why most Pale Drones lack the stronger modifications some higher ranking Pale Throng Units are given (telekinesis, mind-reading, invisibility, etc.). However, Pale Drones can earn specific modifications through work. If they work hard enough, they can get Drone Credit, which can be used in a Throng Modification Station, where they can choose a genetic enhancement, cybernetic implant, or supernatural ability to add to their body. However, Drone Credits are difficult to get, and thus it's rare for many Pale Drones to have any more special modifications then any other Pale Drone.
Pale Drones are not allowed to eat any food not produced by the Pale Throng. This is because Pale Drones can only eat recycled Pale Drone flesh without succumbing to some disorder or disease. If Pale Drones consume vegetation, they'll simply get sick and die. If they eat meat, however, they'll contract a disease that only affects Pale Drones, called Redd. Redd has 5 stages. Stage 1, the Pale Drone becomes overly paranoid and jumpy. Stage 2, the Pale Drone starts to itch themselves uncontrollably. Stage 3, the Drone begins to scratch and chew off any cybernetic enhancements (sometimes even regurgitating them, if any cybernetics were placed in or near their internal organs). Stage 4, the Drone's pale skin will become blood red (Stages 4 and 3 could alternate in order depending on the individual). Stage 5, loss of all intelligent thought and devolving into a mindless beast with a hunger for flesh. This weakness has often been exploited by rebels that are against the Pale Throng, as simply putting in a few chunks of bloody meat into a Pale Drone Food Supply is enough to cause a huge Redd outbreak in the area.
Pale Drones are almost always modified to work best in their climate and profession. The Pale Throng has a large catalogue of "Drone Templates", which is a list of modifications a Drone will receive if they are to be stationed in a specific climate, or given a specific job. Some Pale Drones can even be modified to the point where it's hard to tell if they're even a Pale Drone.
Most Pale Drones are equipped with articulated mechanical arms. These arms are incredibly strong, and at the end are fitted with a disc-shaped device that can have mechanical fingers attached, removed, or relocated along the small trench located on it.
