Oh my GOOOOOD Skelly how could you do this to me ;~; This would be like the perfect AU. The two of them are social outcasts (though Gaster was perhaps a little more by choice than Papyrus), but because of that Papyrus would be drawn to little bby Gaster. Then Gaster would probably freak out and wonder wtf is up with this loud, overly-affectionate skeleton in the weird clothes. But then he'd end up drawn to Papyrus as well, captivated by how happy and enthusiastic he is. Maybe he'd even grow to admire that part of Papyrus (when it isn't annoying, lol).
And maybe if he and Sans were unaware of what grown-up Gaster did to them, even Sans could be supportive of the arrangement.

Seriously though, I'd love an AU like that! And even if they did remember what grown-up Gaster did, they could still turn everything around. I just know Pap and Gaster would get along. Maybe it would take a bit of time, but with bby Gaster's outlook (pacifist, wanting to use science for good), there'd be so much potential there!

Hm...if they did remember what grown-up Gaster did, I wonder if Sans could at least develop a sort of distant affection with select moments of passive-aggression, like the way he's sometimes portrayed in post-pacifist scenarios with a Frisk who has done a genocide run in the past. Most of the time he's his easygoing, joking self. But there definitely isn't full-on trust, and if you look close enough there's some saltiness hidden in the corners.
Ugh, but what's rotten about that is unlike genocide then post-pacifist Frisk, bby Gaster wouldn't know what's going on, or why Sans resents him so. And of course Sans could never tell him because Papyrus doesn't want him to know. What a strange AU that would be, where Gaster is socially awkward and probably still very torn up about what happened to all the skeletons (even though he didn't witness it personally), but he doesn't have as much of the survivor's guilt. And he has a much better support system that's been there for him since his childhood. So that would end up making Sans the most brooding among them. And Gaster would try for a time to please him, until he finally gives up and just chooses to live with a slightly distant relationship with Sans.
Also I wonder if he'd take Papyrus's side when it comes to the human? Naturally normal adult Gaster wouldn't hesitate to straight up murder a human that falls down, even if they're a pacifist. Maybe he'd grudgingly go with it to not make Papyrus sad and not kill them or turn them in. Unless they aren't pacifistic, or they even kill Papyrus. Then maybe he'd pose more of a challenge. Or even team up with Sans in the fight at the end? Yikes. So many possibilities~!
