...ehn it's heavy on one side but w/e. Partially for my own reference, here's a rough family tree of some of my characters belonging to the Arpleia universe (d&d and pathfinder-based).

The Lady Thalia (Thalia Greenleaf);
The Lady Thalia rules over Clearwater Forest. She is rarely seen by outsiders, rumored to be kind and soft-spoken, but very powerful sorceress when she need be. Not typically a fighter unless as a last resort, Thalia’s powers mostly pertain to healing, mental communication with animals, and minor control over weather and plant growth. She is rumored to be as old as the forest itself, although you'd hardly think it from looking at her.

Varalan Greenleaf;
Thalia's son and the Prince of Clearwater Forest. In his youth Varalan went on a diplomatic trip to Targét, the capitol city of Gnostaira, where he fell in love with Kit, a prince at the time. Unfortunately Kit was engaged to a human noble and made Varalan promise to keep their relationship a secret. Unwilling to return to Clearwater and forget about Kit entirely, Varalan got ahold of a book on dark magic and he and Kit performed a spell creating a child between the two of them, which Varalan returned to Clearwater with. After their daughter, Ellire, started to grow up and moved to the half-elf village of Garthram, she eventually stopped writing home and took off alone. For years Varalan searched for her, eventually presuming Ellire dead, and he was devastated.

Kit Romaine;
The previous King of Gnostaira. While still an heir to the throne, Kit had an affair with elven prince Varalan and they agreed to, through dark magic, have a child together. Having to keep this all a secret or risk a royal scandal, especially with his betrothal to the Lady Marnie, their daughter Ellire was taken back to the forest with Varalan. Shortly after marrying Marnie, Kit became the King of Gnostaira and they had a son, Lito. Kit never saw his daughter again until, as an old man on his deathbed, she dropped by to leave an arrow with her symbol by his bedside table out of respect. Kit awoke in time to ask who she was just before Ellire snuck out of his chambers again, but she wasn’t brave enough to tell him the truth.

Marnie Romaine;
Marnie had been engaged to Kit since they were both children, but despite how deeply she cared for him, somehow she knew he never loved her. After she became Queen, her husband continued to sleep around with various men. Although aware of this, Marnie could never say anything and continued to play her role as a faithful wife and proud mother to their only child together, a son called Lito. She never knew about Kit’s daughter and passed away several years before he did.

Bereadan "Adan" Arbane;
Elven pirate and captain of the Rutha Tel'ear. For a time he pretended to be the infamous Mal Dovah, taking advantage of the reputation, until eventually being caught by Ellire, the real Mal Dovah, at a Gnostairan ball. But there was chemistry between them, and rather than duke it out, Ellire and Adan hit it off right away and, after taking her back to his ship with him, the couple proceeded to be a bad influence on one another and bad news for those around them from that moment on. Although their relationship was primarily a physical one, over the years it did become apparent that Adan did grow to care for Ellire on a much deeper level. Way down the line they accidentally have a child together, Eva Rose, and while at first Adan was entirely opposed to the notion of being a father, he immediately fell in love with the little girl. When Ellire eventually dies to save him, being there for Eva Rose is what kept Adan going.

Ellire "Mal Dovah" Greenleaf;
Once a bouncy and optimistic self-proclaimed treasure seeker, Ellire grew up in Clearwater Forest in Gnostaira with her father Varalan. At 32 she traveled with a party that became like her second family and eventually arrived in the half-elf farming village of Garthram, which she absolutely hated and after just under a year abandoned to join up in a war. The army broke apart rather quickly without ever having seen actual combat and Ellire then went off to have adventures with some friends she made from that. Eventually Ellire becomes The Mal Dovah, a notorious assassin and thief, and ends up partnering up with the elven pirate Adan. Now fully grown, her cheeriness had been replaced with dry sarcasm and sass, but Ellire also suffers from depression, often drinking in an attempt to forget about some of her regrets, at one point attempting suicide after having accidentally killed her childhood friend.

Lito Romaine;
Kit became King after his father’s passing. If he knew about the secrets his parents kept from one another, he never made it known. He’s a rather shouty man who definitely didn’t inherit his father’s sense of humor, but for the most part his heart is in the right place. Lito has yet to marry, claiming he has to devote himself to his country and finding a bride would only distract from that, although this sentiment had been fueling more and more concerns about the current lack of a future heir.

Eva Rose Arbane;
The daughter of Ellire and Adan (Ellire wanted to name her Rose and Adan wanted to name her Eden, so Eva Rose was the compromise). Eva Rose grew up on her father's ship, the Rutha Tel'ear, running around wearing his shirts that were hilariously too big for her, and seemingly unaware that were parents were criminals.
