Description Fun facts about Wyverns!
While similar taxonomically to dragons, they have evolved endemically further north. Their differences are easy to observe upon closer inspection.
Their short snouts and powerful jaws are ideal for tough, energy rich sources of nutrition, such as legume, vegetables, or even some species of soils!
They nest in underground burrows, which they usually scavenge for since they're unable to dig by themselves, and scaring away other animals away isn't that big of a deal, since their strong odor is usually enough. They hoard and sleep on their piles of accumulated resources which help survive winters.
A group of wyverns is called a quiver, and it is a tightly bonded commune. Wyverns are extremely social and playful animals and they're known to do everything together as a pack, soaring through the vast mountain ranges in search of food to bring back to their burrows.
Thanks to the robust yet light build of their wings, they are capable of taking flight, while the webbed digits of their rear limbs tuck behind their tails and act almost like a plane's rudder, providing stability.
Their evolutional drive for the ability to fly is unclear, however it plays an important part in their societies, as many social activities, such as playing, grooming or mating rituals, take place in the skies. Females are strong enough to carry their young on their backs even in flight and fur on the back helps get a grip!
For reasons that are still being researched, they only scavenge for food to the east of their nests. When you see a deciduous forest which is unusually thoroughly cleared, there are high chances that you will find a wyverns' nest going west!
