Description
There are certain types of video games and cartoons that have the main protagonist and antagonist from a famous series to temporarily team up to stop a much more bigger threat. Plus, don’t forget that Megaman wouldn’t be the only fictional character to do it, Sonic and his gang teamed up with Dr. Eggman in Sonic Adventure 2, Crash and Dr. Cortex teamed up in Crash Twinsanity, and there’s many more to come from. One year after Megaman 8 was released for the PlayStation and Sega Saturn, fans of the Blue Bomber were treated to the next installment of the series titled Rockman and Forte(Mega Man and Bass) for the SNES.
According to series producer, Keji Inafune, the game was made for younger players who still owned the Super Nintendo. However, Mega Man and Bass was only Japanese until 2003, when Americans and Europeans could finally experience it on the Game Boy Advance. From the start, you can play as Megaman who as same moves as before but is considered to be the hard mode for this game for a number of reasons that I’ll get to soon. Or Bass who pretty much the better character who can charge up but can fire in multiple directions, double jump like Zero, and he can even dash like X. The game has a very high difficulty spike for Megaman because guess what, his canine companion, Rush isn’t accessible and Energy Tanks are absent for unknown reasons too.
A robot who goes by the name of King has made a declaration that robots should superior to all humanity and as such, he breaks into the Dr. Wily’s lab and the Robot Museum from Megaman 7 to steal some data blueprints. Dr Light sends Megaman to stop King and Dr Wily sends Bass to get his castle back. After fighting Green Devil from Megaman 8, in the opening stage, you only allowed to fight 3 robot masters from the start that include Cold Man, Ground Man, Astro Man(MM8). Then, more robot master are unlocked such as Pirate Man, Burner Man, Dynamo Man, Tengu Man(MM8), and Magic Man. The sprite quality is very similar to Megaman 8, the enemy designs, reused backgrounds. The soundtrack is my favorite but I prefer the GBA version causes it sounds better. My favorite themes being Tengu Man, Burner Man, Astro Man, and Ground Man. One negative thing about the GBA port is the screen crunch that’s exactly like Sonic Genesis.
Final Score: 6/10
