CH 1 Excerpt:

Casey looked down at the broth soup that he hadn't even managed to eat half of. His hand shook as he brought up the next scoop to his mouth, determined to push through and finish. It wouldn't due to waste all this good, good food. Especially since he was given a full ration and not just the half he'd normally snag for himself on a good day.

Before it reached his lips, thin fingers gently wrapped around his hand and halted its progress. The pink skin and carefully groomed claws gave way who had stopped him. The young soldier hesitantly looked over and was greeted by the continued warmth and kindness that seemed to make up Master Splinter's gaze.

"Do not force yourself to eat anymore than your stomach can handle." He quietly commanded, guiding his hand to settle the spoon back into the bowl. Casey gave him a guilty frown.

"I don't want it to go to waste…"

"Then we'll just have to pour it into a container and place it in the fridge for tomorrow!" Mikey cut in, happily snagging the bowl to do just that. Which caused a mild spout of laughter around the table.

"Fridge?" The boy blurted out. "For food?"

"Yeah…?" Donnie lifted his head up from his phone to raise an eyebrow at the boy from the future. "What else would we use the kitchen fridge for?"

Lots of things, like the precious small stores of aloe and seeds; clean spare pillowcases and clothes to keep from any Kraang spores; candles, to keep from dripping too much and being wasted; the few batteries that they could find or recharge; and a whole store of other things. Food typically went into the freezers to be thawed out over a fire for later. The fridges were typically the first to go when the Resistance couldn't keep up electricity. They weren't connected to the emergency generators like the freezers.

But then, they didn't need to worry about that here. Did they?

"I'm sorry, I don't know what I was thinking." He quickly answered, his eyes dropping to his lap. Carefully, he tried to keep his face blank and not show the embarrassment that was quickly welling up in him.
