I looked up a lot on the Plague Doctor, but what was his primary objective? Cure the Black Death?

He was responsible for healing the Black Death, but the medicine was not advanced enough and, as he did not have any real solution, all he did was to kill the patient quicker to put an end to the suffering.

I guess you can call it like that, but they were mostly doing bloodlettings or giving poisons. But the patients believed it was medicine and not that they were put to death.
