Description Started this on Sep9 -been working on it for waaaaay too long. Pretty much the exact same thing that happened to my first forest piece happened to this. Scrapping it to move onto something new and hopefully better (should've moved onto something new a week ago).

Here's the process of the whole thing (not sure if I made the gif too slow).

Thanks for sharing your process! It was nice how everything changed constantly, with details being added up, then scrapped in favour of other ones...
Just curious: do you have so many pics of this because you wanted to record the process, or simply because you save as a new file everytime?

For this I specifically wanted to record the process, but I just kept each version on their own separate layer.

To me, this GIF represents the struggle between perfectionism and indecision. Thank you for sharing.

Thanks for the comment dude. I'm still struggling a lot with trying to make everything perfect -it's a really hard mindset to get over which is why a lot of stuff ends up being dumped due to frustration like this piece (also why I never finish a lot of the things I start). Thanks a lot though, art is hard : (

It seems to me that you already understand your struggles with art. My only piece of advice is do not be so indecisive. Forget the details and get the whole piece done, so that at least you finish it. Right?

It's always so lovely to see the way you work, man. Loving the evolution here. It started out very cramped and, well, generic, but eventually it got this really cool vibe. The colors are a very driving factor in the atmosphere, but in the end it's still the composition that makes the piece, huh?
The slightly dusty color scheme and sky give a bit of a far-off feeling, but maybe that's just me. If anything, I think this one might've been better if you made the foreground even less cramped and the background even more far-off. In visual media, I really can vouch for exaggeration to get a feeling or point across. Technique-wise and color-wise, this is near perfect, but maybe it's just missing a bit more of that extra oomph... Looking at the beginning, you could've gone either way; less cramped, or even more. Either one would've worked, when at their most extreme. Just a thought. Keep up the great work, you're getting so damn good!

Eyyyy, cabbage! Yea, totally right that I should've not had the foreground come up so close. I think the problem was I really didn't know what I wanted, which is why everything changed so drastically while I was doing this! I feel semi-satisfied with the colour, personally, I wish I would've broken up the palette and not made it so bland by sticking to brown, yellow & green -but the compositition is still what's bugged me the most about this piece D;Β

Maybe if I just rolled with the original 'cramped' feeling that I had in the beginning I would've finished it, instead of making an awkward middlepoint by pushing all the building to their respective sides of the canvas more.

Any how, I'm hoping this next thing that I'm working on won't have so many problems like this one (though, I'm already hating something about it >:U )Β

Hope you're doing alright mang, thanks for the c&c

WOW! That is so cool to see your progress. I'm SO glad I'm not the only one that changes a lot of what I'm doing as I go along!

Haha yea, though I hope when I get better my ideas will be more solid and thought out so I won't have to go about changing them. Usually happens a lot when I'm not totally sure where I wanna go with a piece : )Β

yea, I'm pretty happy with how the piece improved over time, which is why I don't think this is a total failure (though, still a bit disheartening) Thanks Aastikya : )Β
