The minimal colouring looks good and the lineart's effective in its way - the only thing I feel lowers the tone of the image is the background, though - very staggered and pixellated for some reason. Then again, I shouldn't really be saying such things of gifts.

I'm not sure but I think GIF format does the to gradients too... PNG might not, but then that depends on how accomodating Illustrator/Photoshop is feeling... hehe, silly gradients. Have you tried perhaps using block colour instead of it? I'd hate to try and change what's on show here, of course, but I've known most gradients to be somewhat temperamental.
