Description This one is for 's Gods, Goddesses and Mythology competition at [link]

I've been entering quite a few competitions lately - I figured it helps me to actually finish paintings from time to time. Every new painting brings up a ton of new problems and in the end I just realize how little I actually know and maybe I can't paint at all and maybe I should just pick up a shovel instead and start some real work.. How depressing.

A tarinrul is basically a shapeshifter that can change into a wild beast, but it can never be quite a true beast - or a real man.

Comments, suggestions, ideas, favs.. most welcome, as always

EDIT: as always I had to change a few things: shading on the shirt, a bit of color corrections and added a shadow on the background.

Wonderful... your work gets better and better. The thing I like the most is how you use the textures, everything you draw somehow feels like it can be touched, almost real.

I'm going for the realism, but not very successfully still need practice. But it sure feels good to know I'm improving. THank you!!

Those eyes were a pain.. I could work on them for months and there would still be something else to add/fix/change But thanks, I'm really glad you like it!

I am surprised there are not that many pageviews in this gallery. There should be! Your work is fantastic. I will admit that the shirt is a bit hard to see.

Thank you, that means a lot to me..
I was going for the Rembrandt style with the spotlight effect on face and hand... But I also didn't detail the shirt very much, so I guess it's better to leave it in the dark

The face and the hand are teh focal points in the picture, and they have such wonderful details, that is fine if a viewer can`t see anything else. Kinda adds to the mood.

You still need to work on the sharpness of the contuor to really make it stand out more I love the shirt's "strap-up"

I'm not sure if it's a problem that your work's aren't the sharpest. Probably because I'm so used to it through clean line-works and the like. It's always good to work on one skill or side of your ability though

On the other side! Your skin tones and textures = infallible, as well as the clothes. 's all good. I especially like the eyes. Are those skulls I see?

Bit more highlights would've been fab as well to really gaze at it in it's full glory

Good job!

Hey, how have you been? Again you are full of great suggestions
I'm trying to UNSHARP the thing though I might be overdoing it a bit.. I want it to look natural and artsy at the same time. Another frustration for me I guess I'll keep working on it.
Oh, the skulls weren't intentional, they just sort of appeared there. Hmmm.. should I be worried? And I fixed the lightning a bit, you were quite right about that. As usual

The "skulls" are one of those "happy surprises" as I call them, keep them or (even better) work on them. Would be a fun detail as he looks to be a god of Death.

Your works appear grainy at times, the best I can do to describe it. They have a tendency of sinking into the background.

You're doing great. Your best artwork so far!

I've been busy with friends and drawing pics for my school project having to do with a redesign of the area outside my school Went quite well I'd tell ya. Oh oh! And I want to tell you a thing or twoif you're chatting up on MSN by today or tomorrow evening.

no worries hun^^ and it's true, i have been busy. spring's a busy kickoff to summer at the ranch, mares coming and going for breeding and to be foaled out, ppl calling and mailing about possible studs and the need for photos of stallions and mares (and the natural having to groom them super well before photos XP)
so how was your weekend?

We were doing raku firing of ceramics and a few ceramic balls ran off from the kiln, down the hill and towards our cars, parked by the house. Oh, and their temperature was about 900 degrees Celsius (what was that song - great balls of fire or something?!)
And the second "close encounter" was primitive kiln construction in the back yard. I still smell like a chimney sweep. And so does everything else...
But the ceramics came out ok, so..
