Well you've already answered your own question on how to reach the big 4...practice practice practice. that's the only way to get better. I'd recommend studying anatomy cause once you know how the body moves, how muscles contract or expand and how the body looks at different angles, then you can take that knowledge and apply your own style to it. Start drawing things you don't normally draw. if your trying to get a job as a comic book penciler you have to know how to draw any and everything and make it visually entertaining as well as believable (by comicbook standards). drawing "pages" and "prints" are two totally different things. when drawing pages you have to know how to visually tell a story sequentially. you have to know how to draw action poses as well as non action poses (a woman looking out the window or sitting in a chair, simple facial expressions, hand gestures etc)and you HAVE to be able to keep the readers attention. if your the penciler on a comic book your kind of like the director of a movie...you'll have a script or ideas from the writer or producer but they'll want you to put YOUR vision and artstyle to it while staying within certain guidelines that they set. OR they may just let you have total freedom over the project, it all depends on who you work for and how confident they are in your abilities to tell the story effectively. But MOST IMPORTANTLY never EVER EVER EVER give up on your dreams. No matter how many rejections you get....take the critisicim in stride...listen to what they say...keep practicing, keep getting better, and keep trying. It can get stressful at times so remember to HAVE FUN doing what you do and keep doing whatever you can to get better as an artist. It's an evolving process and I'm still learning the "do's" and "do nots" myself. I hope that helps.
