this would be very helpfull, though my main problem i dont know where to shade! X: can you help me with that?

Well generally you have a set light source (like the sun) comming from a certain point (in this drawing its comming from my left hand side). From there the light casts shadows where the light doesnt reach. Really its hard to explain, heres a tutuorial though on shading. Its for pencil/realistic shading, but the information is still helpful and basically the same as what anime artists use to a lesser extent.(this was actually the best out of all that I could find)
[link]
Another peice of advice i can give you is examine the peices of art you like, and look at where they place shadows. Some of them will be different and some will be the same (due to the area the light source is in) but soon youll see some patterns and resembalance in all of them. Also looking at examples in the real world would also help. For instance go outside with a freind or something and see where the sun is and how theyre casting shadows on different places.
I hope this helps.

wow this is seems usefull i will try it. ^.^
though,also seems very long.. @.@'
today i just learned the pen tool for the first time, finally i can use it.. it annoyed me so much before since it didnt gave the results like i saw on tutorials but after figuring out what was the block,i found it as better than it was before. ^.^
anyway, untill today i used open canvas to manually ink the entire drawing by brushing it.
it also cames out bit pixelated, but seems easier at first as an inking method..
if you want to i can share with you a coloring PSD file i working on and correct me through its progress.
see in it if i have mistakes and such and tell me about it,i think i would learn better that way. ^^

It is long but it does help.
The pen tool is difficult to use at first but its good to hear youve gotten the hang of it. Usually once you get through the initial phase it gets easier as you use it more.
Oh and the pixilation is usually caused when you have too low of a brush size. 1px is pretty bad for a brush size since it gives the most pixilation, 2 or 3 are usually good sizes to use.
And yeah Ill help you, but Im pretty busy too. So when I can Ill definately help you through this piece.
Just send me the psd and ill tell you what I think.

XD Oh no.
If you can, you definately have to get PS its so much better. (but then again I never used corel, but I have a feeling that its like MS paint)

Oh wow.....
See when I started coloring I always had PS (granted 7 but PS nonetheless), so I never really knew about the other programs.

lol yeah back when I had win98 like 5 years ago I had PS but when I had to upgrade to XP I somehow lost it. Actually I lost it when my scanner went kaput. It was like some 3 or something- really crappy. The mac that we had had a better system even if it was almost like Paint

Skuldchan In reply to watashiveracasan [2006-08-22 21:49:43 +0000 UTC]

Hmmm So was your PS linked to your scanner? Is that why it got lost.

watashiveracasan In reply to Skuldchan [2006-08-24 16:12:59 +0000 UTC]

Yeah with my scanner that I got with the computer. It was some old old ancient version which would be like stupid to use now a days xD Then I bought the new scanner which somehow my computer doesn't even KNOWS exists -.-

Skuldchan In reply to watashiveracasan [2006-08-24 17:16:31 +0000 UTC]

Thats sad to hear... XD
Hopefully you get PS again soon. But it sounds like Corel is still a pretty good program to use.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

watashiveracasan In reply to Skuldchan [2006-08-24 18:00:18 +0000 UTC]

Well I guess it depends on which one from Corel. Like I have Corel Expressions or something which is the same as Corel's PaintShop Pro *I haven't noticed any differance*.

Thank you really much!! X3

But there's one thing I don't understand... how do you copy..?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Skuldchan In reply to WitchChild93 [2006-08-16 16:29:58 +0000 UTC]

Do you mean how to copy the image from one file to another?
All you have to do is select the whole picture by using the rectangle marquee tool, then go up to the edit option in the tool bar, followed by clicking copy on the menu screen it drops down. Or you can press ctrl+c.
I hope that answers the question.
