Description This is a page taken from Hude's General History of the World written by Kristi Hude. Published in 1954 by Nàiseanta Lèirmheas Co. in Rìmhinn. It was the first of five volumes detailing the history of the world, and it mainly concerned the restoration of contact between the North Magni Norse and the Kalmar Union. The maps from this page feature the early voyages from Europe, crossing the Atlantic, and where some of them might have met their tragic end. Along with the Trade routes established many years later as a result of renewed contact.

What follows is an excerpt from the 5th chapter 'The Magni Norse Return':

"The restoration of contact between the North Magni Norse and the Scandinavian empire has been one of the singular events that have shaped our history. It was a bright Sunday morning of the year 1518 in the settlement of Reykjavík, which at the time was not much more than a collection of farms, when a the monks of the local church were aghast to see a fleet numbering upwards of a thousand ships off the coast. The the ships themselves were of a strange design, and their peoples even stranger.

The landing party was cautious, and well armed. Wearing furs, covered in tattoos, and what jewelry they had was of a intricate craftsmanship. They were an odd mix of very pale, to a nearly red skin tone, with hair ranging from a deep black to an almost white color. The monks themselves were terrified since they rightly thought these were some unknown raiding party, though of what they thought to take from simple farmers, they could not say. They were shocked at the sight of them, and even more concerned about the language the tall foreigners spoke.

The Icelandic language had gradually become distinct as years of Germanic, English and Slavic influence changed the Danish, Swedish, Norwegian and Finnish sibling languages. This distinction came in the way of it's close resemblance to the old norse languages from which the others came. This proved a coincidental boon as the monks discovered that the foreigners spoke a similar language, though much of it was different due to centuries of influence by the Algoomeaking language. The Monks were further dismayed when they asked the strange foreigners where they were from, the reply included the word 'Vinland'.

Which was familiar to them, for nearly every member of the Roman Catholic Church in Iceland had visited Skalhot, one of the major churches of the island, to meet with Bishop Stefan Jonsson, where the famous Skálholtsbók was housed. In it's prized leaves contained the Saga's, Scandinavia's nearly lost history of its ancient Norse past, where in it, it details the many travels of the Norse explorers, histories and myths.

The one of note was the Saga of Erik the Red and his three sons, of whom it is said discovered a lush land, which they named Vinland. It is said that upon discovery, Erik and his three sons returned, and if legend was to be believed, organized 10,000 colonists to establish a permanent colony in the new land. For a time it was a success, and with a trade route established, goods began to flow in both directions. Unfortunately, the black plague struck Europe, and soon the depopulation of Iceland and Greenland caused the famed trade route to be lost to Europe. There hadn't been contact with the colony for 400 years before the North Magni Norse Landed at Reykjavík, and there return would change the course of history.

An Althing or council was called of the surrounding chiefs of the other settlements, to decide what to do about the matter. The Leader of the Magni professed to be one of the sons of their king, who apparently held great lands and wealth in the new world, and his mission was one of peace and trade. This of course was of great interest to the Icelanders since their economy had been devastated with the transfer of ownership from the Norwegian Crown to the Danish. The Danish had no need for Icelandic goods unlike the Norwegians, and thus trade from the island had dwindled.

Both the bishops of the  Gottskálk grimmi Nikulásson of church Hólar, and the  Stefan Jonsson of church Skalhot, were in attendance, and while bitter rivals, both agreed that the best course was to send them on to Denmark. Though for different reasons, Stefan wanted to avoid the whole of Iceland being looted should the Magni be frustrated in their goals, and Gottskalk wanted revenge against the Danish, who he expected would be raided by the heathen fleet. Thus decided, the fleet was given provisions, which was paid for in gold by the Magna Norse, and several translators. Those translators were secretly instructed by the chiefs of the island to steer any negotiations in Icelands favor when possible, which they were able to do with the creation of the north see trade route later."

The Magni Norse's introduction to King Christian II of the Kalmar Union can be directly tied to the defeat of the Swedish rebellions and the solidification of the Union into the Scandinavian Empire years later under his son Emperor John II. Which in turn made the marriage between King James V of Scotland and Christiana of Denmark more appealing, solidifying an alliance that would have major implications economically and militarily in the future. This in turn would lead to the Scottish Spanish war that would be fought in both hemispheres. Drastically altering the balance of power in Europe and the Magna for centuries to come. Few events in history have caused a wave of consequences like the landing of forgotten Scandinavian siblings at Reykjavík.
