Oh gosh, this piece has quite the story to it!I sketched this like five or six years ago, started coloring it then, and proceeded to lose both the original sketch and the psd file. Good job me!
Like two years later, I found the file again. But this had been one of the first pieces that I had tried to color digitally, and it was bad. I had grown a lot more as an artist and my style for shading things digitally had changed. Before losing it, I had it like 80% done, so I was gonna have to pretty much start all over again. Was kind of dejected about it, but I put it in my folder for current digital projects anyways, figuring I'd get to it eventually.
Forgot about, found it again a year or so later when I was organizing the folder and decided to start re-shading it. I've been working on it on and off ever since, until about three months ago when I decided I was sick of seeing it sitting there unfinished still and kicked my butt into gear.
Glad to be finally done with it! It's been a journey.
I may come back and touch some things up here and there still, but I'm kind of sick of looking at it, so I'm calling it done for now.

That's a propper feral-looking dragon. Nice choise of colors, the contrasts really are what drew my eye to this.

Thanks! I've kinda been itching to get back to drawing them more, lately all of my dragons have been smooth. Scales are a nice change of pace.
The contrast was super fun to paint in there, I'm gonna experiment with it some more I think! I love pieces that really make a good dramatic use of colors and light, and it's def something I'd like to incorporate more in my work.

But ahhhhh, thanks so much! I was looking for a way to make him pop more, and blue fire is like my favorite thing, so that's what I went with XD. Kind of inspired now to make a series of dragon portraits with them all breathing weirdly colored fire lol.

Nah, I imagined this guy on my own. I had to google the Dracopedia one, and I can see some resemblance, but me and the author both took inspiration from the flag of Wales, so it makes sense they'd be kind of similar.

This is a supposed to be a european dragon! It was inspired by the dragon on the flag of Wales, which is why I titled it Welsh Red! c:
