Shadow was lost in a small boating area when he was just 2 years old , it seemed that his pod felt he was too weak and sickly to keep up and so left him , when locals spotted him he was in terrible condition and was severely underweight , action was taken to bring him to a facility to hopefully rehabilitate him and release him back with his pod if possible . Upon his condition he had very sore thin skin making him even more stressed , but with some TLC his skin condition improved!. However after they successfully released him back into the wild with his pod 5 months later he was back at the same location with the skin condition back and more worse when taking samples of it after they re- captured him the results came back that his skin condition will always bare a problem for him he also has a weak immune system and poor eye sight and thus was deemed non releasable , and was either going to be euthanized or spend his life in captivity with constant vet care. so he was put into captivity , but due to his skin condition no Dolphinariums wanted to take responsibility of him and his health issues and so was kept in a undersized tank with no company and for a young orca he vocalized constantly and logged at the surface. until a decision was made to end his suffering after 6 years of no one wanting him. Cherry Blossom Dolphinarium wanted to take him on despite his long term health conditions . upon Arriving to the park veterinarians looked at his condition and took samples they also kept Shadow in solitary confinement before introducing him to the other orca , As they weren't sure his skin condition could get passed onto other orca , but the results came back negative . so it was time to introduce him to Kaminari a friendly sub dominant female , this was the first time shadow had seen another orca in 7 years!, and started to vocalize frantically and bumping against the gate wanting to meet this other orca, when trainers opened the gate he swam through and kaminari looked at him head on it seemed she was trying to figure out who he was and his status once she knew that he was new she established her dominance over him by chasing him around the show tank and leaving small rakes on him , Shadow got the message and slowed down and showed submissiveness , it seems that the two had bonded after a few days and shadow was then introduced to the other females and males . Shadow over time has become a sub dominant male and gets checked regularly for his health conditions . Shadow or stage name Shade is a high energy orca and is a favorite among visitors .
