Beautiful! I'm just learning pastels and just completed my first pet portrait ("Lincoln"). I would love to know how you incorporate colored pencil -- I'm seeking advice!

I find it easiest to work with pastels first, creating washes or direct strokes with them. After the pastel has been laid down, the pencil can be used over the top to bring out fine details. I hope that helps .

Amazing...the fur looks so soft, I want to pet them!

I had to this, it's a wonderful piece!

Digital work is fascinating, but traditional has always impressed me. I think it takes amazing talent to pick up pencil or pastel or charcoal and create something that practically lives and breathes off the paper...

You are truly blessed with that ability.

I have to agree with you. I started in traditional mediums long before digital was an option - it was my first love. However, once I got a knack for working digitally, I set aside my traditional tools in favor of the convenience (and cleanness) of working with a tablet and stylus.

Sometimes it's just necessary to revisit one's roots. I think my last 3 pieces (in my gallery) have been some of my most enjoyable. I can also see that I have learned a few new things during my digital explorations and have been able to apply them to my traditional work.

Thank you for your lovely observations

Digital has been fun, learning photo manips is a blast, and challenges the creativity, but I'd forgotten that once upon a time I knew how to draw...albeit not as well as you! My daughter reminded me, when she asked me how I drew a rose I had done almost 20 years ago. Uhh....

But it got the pencil and paper back out! I hope she picks it up and runs with it. Drawing was such an outlet, as was writing. Digital is great, but unless you've got a laptop, you can't take it with you and just whip it out to create something when the mood strikes!

I'll be visiting your gallery often, I can tell.

I'm really enjoying revisiting working in traditional mediums. I love the ease of use and cleanness one can achieve digitally, but it feels good to dig back into a more tactile approach again.

Sometimes, getting dirty with it can be quite rewarding. And this piece looks wonderful, and has lots of heart to it.

I can feel that fur, the sloppy wet kisses and cold nose, the nudging, the happiness of the dogs, the way they make a person feel. It conveys the connection appropriately. An excellent work.
