Gamestop believed as well as many others that by removing the X clamps that hold the heatsinks in with giant bolts that it would fix and prevent the red ring of death issues. Well, no. The X clamps were designed and formed in a way that pressure was created by how the heatsink pegs bent it and the force went in the middle against the chips to the heatsinks. The bolts put uneven pressure around the board and can cause them to warp. Luckily this unit got the X clamps back after I was done with it.
