I have both versions on my computer and enjoy them quite a bit. Though I must say the tripods in the newer version just take my breath away! Mostly all about the sounds they make for some reason. Completely sinister!
Okay, okay, I know they aren't the most efficient of machines when it comes to wiping out the populace of a planet, but they're still pretty awesome. A friend of mine has suggested that one fire a huge ships engines towards the earth and that'll take care of the atmosphere... AND us. I tend to agree. Not like Mars has all that much atmosphere to begin with but if they have the technology to build the tripods then they got the technology to teraform if they need atmosphere.
