Entry for: Veternaetr: Rise of the Spirits

We did the sketch/composition together and she did the flats. Rest done by me.

The night appeared to be darker than usual and a dreadful tension filled the air as the shadows kept moving, lurking, hunting. It caused a feeling of being trapped, there was simply no way to escape. They were everywhere and rapidly increasing in number.
Doran had gathered all cadets, who got assigned to him for this task, and led them to the stables. All of them wore their riot gear and Doran couldn't deny that he felt a mixture of pride and worry to see his students like this. They had trained for such situations, he knew what his fosterlings were capable of; all of them had improved and developed the skills needed to deal with such an emergency.
"You know the drill.", he said as he mounted his stallion, looking over his shoulder to make sure that all cadets were ready. "Follow your orders and stick to the plan. I don't want to see any of you putting themselves in danger when it isn't absolutely necessary."
The cadets were stationed in pairs of two along one side of the city. They, together with other units from the Dragon Police, stayed in contact via radio devices, keeping each other updated.
Doran took a deep breath and pat his stallion's neck. Athos was tense and notably testy, pulling into Mercury's direction whenever the gap became too big between them.
"Ready?", Doran asked Lauris, who was going to patrol the remaining route with him.
"As ready as I can be.", the cadet replied and tightened his grip on the bo stick. "Should see it positively. This mess might keep you busy enough to spare us from tons of homework for the next few days."
Doran snorted. Typical Halvardsson. But he was most likely right about that. "Don't worry, I will think of a way to keep you busy. And now get moving."
"Yes, Sir."
