A picture of Tegene (teh-guh-nay), my white german shepherd pup.This was taken around th beginning of January while my mom and I went to the Smokey Mountains.
He's gotten so much bigger since then.

Rare..uh in a sense, I'm starting to see more and more of them, not as many people are as against them as they used to be.
The reason why is because many organizations like AKC don't allow white german shepherds to compete in conformation, the white colored fur is a disqualification. But they can still do agility and obedience.
Its not as bad as germany and austrailas organization though, they don't even allow the white german shepherd into the club O.o
So this color of the breed has always been ostracized and complained about. I was talking to this guy at a local dog show and showed him a picture of my pup, he said he didn't understand why some people were so against them, his second german shepherd (or was it first? XD) was a white german shepherd and he said people always looked down at him. But he said that a bunch of white german shepherds were at the show the day before and he was happy to see them cominginto more popularity. A woman there told me the same thing.
Thank goodness theres always been a selected few who've stood by the breeds color so they still are around. Some people prefer to referr them as a whole different breed from the german shepherd, but I don't, why and how is it a different breed when my pups mother was a beautiful black and tan german shepherd?
But the popularity is starting to show,and more people are recognizing them. For example that new movie bolt? He's a white german shepherd pup. And that ps2 game haunting grounds.
So are they expensive, they shouldn't be too much different than a normal german shepherd, some organizations like the WGSDCA (white german shepherd dog club of america) are for the breeds color and show the breed in comformation, breeders with champion winning dogs are always a little pricer, but a family pet white german shepherd with no particular champion winning back ground shouldn't cost much.

Yes they can have hip problems.
Thats why you look for good reputable breeders who've got the parents health certifications so it is more likely that the pups wont be prone to most illnesses common in german shepherds.
Of course, rescues and shelters are always getting german shepherds pup and adults, mixes or purebreeds.

Oh I see, I almost got a basset hound, but then I saw the white german shepherds and it was pretty much love at first sight for this little guy.
I'd had his name picked out before I even meet him. When I went to see the litter there were only 2 left, a female and my little boy. The girl was pretty friendly and more adventurous, Tegene was kind of shy and didn't really want to approach. But I put him on my lap and he just sat there and looked up at me and I was just like, yep this is Tegene.
Which if funny becuase his name so didn't suit him, its an african name that means "my protector". He was so scared of everything though lol.
When I finally got to take him home I put him in my lap and he whined and howled the whole way.
But he became so attatched to me, which is exactly what I wanted. He likes my family, but even the first day there I couldn't put him down for a second because he'd paw my legs and whine.
He still follows me around the house everywhere even when he's dead tired. He's the most loyal dog I've meet, but he's gotten too big to pick up XD He stays in my room all night. My parents will let him out in the morning to go to the bathroom, but then he lays right next to my door until I wake up. Its the sam way if I'm out at night with friends, he's right by the front door or by my bedroom door.
So german shepherds are pretty much my favorite breeds, they have been for a LONG time, I've just never had one until now. And I don't think I could suggest a different breed, they just pretty much do it all lol.
