Happy Birthday !

Yes, this is late and looks a bit weird, (what am I saying? It looks like someone spilt six kinds of paint across it!) but this this my gift to him after he gave me permission to give his characters a go. (Consider this a warning of what I'm likely to do to any character you let me loose on.)

About the art:
Actually, dispite the amount of complaining, I don't think this is too bad. Considering how much work I put in on this and how tricky it was to get them semmi burried in tribbles, I don't think it turned out too badly. Layers are becoming a dear friend to me. I know it's bad to leave behind the traditional art and there is no way I'm going to stop completely. But inking is so much less stressful to do when you know that a slip or incorrect details are easily changed thanks to layering on an image. The shading isn't great but considering what I was going for shading wise, this isn't too far off what I was after.
The background isn't what I was hoping for but I didn't have refrences for it and had to do it from memory. Which as you can probably guess, wasn't much help.
There are areas that do need improvement but this is still something that I did work hard on and didn't do too badly.
The stuff I messed up on are the tribbles, shading, lighting, background and some of the details on the characters. I'll work on improving that.
Oh, and if you must look at full size, be warned! It isn't a small image.

About the Scene:
If I try to explain the story written by about these characters we'll be here for the rest of the week. The short version is that these characters come from the future. Space has been colonised and these three are part of the Federation. These are not Sonic versions of human characters, these are Sonic characters who grew up in a situation where the Federation is part of their daily lives. But they are given equipment to go back in time to prevent criminals from getting away.
One episode I have always enjoyed was The Trouble With Tribbles and the follow up to it with the cast of Deep Space Nine. The way those two were done mean they will always be strong favorites with me. Now, it was these two episodes combined with the character details that set off this sinario in my mind. Out of all the characters I could see Kitana (The snake. She a cobra/rattle snake cross) finding a cute pet and giving it as a gift without quite realising what she was about to do.
As for Rika (the female fox buried by tribbles) I did that because she'd just be loved by those guys.

So here's to you Rico, I hope you like it. For those who don't get the joke, brush up on your Star Trek. More stuff which is less obscure is on the way!
