Description //scratches head not even sure where to start about this piece's description

My plan of creating city OCs of every Slavic country is now one step closer to the goal. (now only Macedonia, Czech, Poland and Belarus left)

...Let's say because my first ever APH city OC was Yaroslavl', who's rather old in comparison to majority of Russian cities. Inevitably I had to read quite a lot of Kievan Rus' history - in particularly related to the founder of the city; Yaroslav the Wise. However, the gentleman in this pic probably smacks me if I talk about that name too many times because he's not too fond of Yaroslav the Wise   ...for incorporating him as a former independent principality into Kiev's control after his ruler passed away.

I present you my first Ukrainian city OC, Mr. Chernihiv (Vladyslav Mstyslavovych Chernychenko //do I even have his name with the correct spelling?? //has very low knowledge concerning Ukrainian language). Chernihiv was once an influential principality  within Kievan Rus'; in some period was possibly only second to Kiev if we exclude Novgorod. His patronym came from the name of Mstislav of Chernihiv  - a brother of Yaroslav the Wise who was victorious in the battle between two of them in the struggle for power in Kievan Rus'.

Anyway, as people who have seen my art around may have known that I already own a horde ofseveral Russian city OCs. Chances are I'll most likely keep them and Chernihiv apart due to 'what we all know', except maybe sometime I may draw of some of them in a group pic...but of course the subject will be strictly limited to Kievan Rus' period.

Now, as for the painting next to him. That was a painting that certain somebody commissioned an artist to draw both himself and Chernihiv back in the Kievan Rus' era. Hence they were both still in their childhood years(Chernihiv is supposed to be about 8-9 y.o. and KurskYou'reTooDarnCuteAsAChild is around 3-4 in this painting; their age difference as settlements is 125 years (Chernihiv-907 AD and Kursk-1032 AD))

Yup, in his early years Kursk was part of Principality of Chernihiv until around 1095 when he became a small principality himself but was still under Chernihiv's sphere of influence.

History lesson from what puny knowledge I have ends here people. Now move on to his folk costume...

It took me a few days to find reference about regional Ukrainian folk costumes. Still, if you ask me I'll say that I'm not even confident that the final result here qualified as Ukrainian folk costume or not.   At least what I have learned is that Chernihiv is in a region called Polesia  which is a northern region of Ukraine bordering Belarus.

Somehow from my rampage on Google, I was able to find this page about Ukrainian folk costumes . The problem is...they grouped the costumes by wider regions but not by cities' :'D Thus, to be honest, the costume Chernihiv is wearing is probably not from his city actually but could be from other area of Polesia. It was mainly based on this costume  (just wish the info banner thingy below was big enough to at least let me see the name of oblast/city    ).

Note to self - don't even try painting every thing on BG in one layer again. //so messy

Thank you! Lately I've been trying to vary how I draw face shapes a bit, so my OCs wouldn't looks like they're some kind of twins with a few other OCs. XD
