Description China is the country of constant evolution. In 1984, the wealth distribution was the most equal in the world, a few years ago it became the most unequal. Together with society, cities and villages are changing at a dazzling speed. This street won't be the same in a year or two. Rusty houses, still inhabited... Soon shops and restaurants to cater the insatiable need for Chinese to consume. People say that a mill can't grind with water that is past. But is it for the better?Β China, Guangxi province.

It's amazing places in China still look like this today, it's so easy to forget too, with the wealth of pictures from more developed areas in Shanghai and Beijing. Love the framing in this shop, lucky there was that person walking by at the time, it makes a nice point of interest.

Well, in the hutongs there are still some places like this

Nixie-nix In reply to slecocqphotography [2011-08-30 12:25:31 +0000 UTC]

Yes, there still are hutongs around in some places but one of my childhood homes now exist in the space of a giant car park. It was demolished a year before the Olympics. Wouldn't it be a shame if views like this are gone completely? ;_;

I agree completely... There is no real management here about what to preserve or how... the economic advantage is the only thing that comes into account...

Sadly... I see you live in China as well... That's why i say sadly. Everything and everybody is going through an evolution. But here, everything from the past is being erased too easily, making place for a future that the people are not ready for...
