oh this is the last page before I decided I was done with backgrounds and switched to 3D. You may have noticed me getting progressively lazier with drawing them these last few pages. For a long story like this where the backgrounds are mostly just "generic forest" or "generic field" (because I can't be bothered to draw anything more interesting for any scene longer than a page) drawing backgrounds started to feel like a mindless task and a waste of time. And also something I was never proud of. And while I could be proud of it if I put more effort into it, more effort means spending more time on it. And I'm already not dishing these pages out as fast as I would like to be. The entire process made me so discouraged and left me in such a slump that I considered quitting comic making altogether. I wasn't enjoying it anymore. So as much as using 3D backgrounds might seem cheap or like cheating, for a hobbyist who's only doing this for the joy of it, it was my only option.
All that said, I may not necessarily use 3D backgrounds forever. For TCaS? Yes. But for future comics whose backgrounds may be too complicated or specific for 3D, well... we'll burn that bridge when we get to it.
