Wow... that texture is just... delicious! I love it! how did you make it?

Oh... and what materials do you use?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Sleetwealth In reply to Faerie-s [2008-04-07 22:32:19 +0000 UTC]

She is sculpted with polymer clay. The skin is then painted with white genesis heat set oil paints leaving some skin showing through. Hair is koolaid dyed wool roving. hand painted leather and gauze dress, Cellophane and wire wings.

Faerie-s In reply to Sleetwealth [2008-04-08 18:47:05 +0000 UTC]

Right! I'm gonna try polymer clay! I'll most likely fail in my attempt... but it shall be fun! And I will learn! Your skill is so vast... *sighs in admiration*

If you have time... could you tell me what you would make if you were given the topic 'The head within'? Its my current art project and it has to be 3d. I Really have no clue in what I should create....

Sleetwealth In reply to Faerie-s [2008-04-08 21:22:33 +0000 UTC]

It is fun and you learn very quickly when you enjoy something.
I supose a head that had broken/open areas and a tiny head inside or onionon layers... it is the most literal way to show that. Or a bust with a figure on the shoulder talking into the ear. Even and eye with face in the Pupil. A mechnical peice could be interesting like an android with a slide out memory bank.

Thank you very much She is a fairy that darkened during curing so , I painted her white. It was a good save that made her spooky.

Its great when a mistake can turn out so well !
I had a nightmare recentley...
I made a doll that I really liked.
Pup got hold of her
Broke off her fingers but I managed to save her .
THEN I went and burnt her to a crisp by forgetting she was in the oven !
That doll was never meant to be I guess

Sleetwealth In reply to Fairykist [2008-03-27 01:20:42 +0000 UTC]

She was only slightly darker than I wanted her not a terrible burn.

Ive had those moments too. I made a merman that darkened so badly I had to bronze him.
The first time I got a toaster oven, I burned my baby so bad it was a black and bubbled up lump.

Fairykist In reply to Sleetwealth [2008-03-27 13:32:30 +0000 UTC]

yeah thats what mine did went black and bubbled up... I couldn't believe it
A lesson to be learnt there for me... NEVER go on the phone when you have a doll in the oven

Sleetwealth In reply to Fairykist [2008-03-27 23:26:16 +0000 UTC]

I got a convection oven and it has a timer that turns it off automaticly. So no more burnt babies for me!
You should get one. I adore mine! You can find em on ebay for uner 100.

Fairykist In reply to Sleetwealth [2008-03-29 15:22:24 +0000 UTC]

Sounds like a good idea
It was the 1st time I'd ever burnt a doll like THAT...
Don't want that to happen again.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Sleetwealth In reply to Fairykist [2008-03-29 21:16:46 +0000 UTC]

I burnt at least three. Either from forgeting or spiking of the oven.

Another nice thing about the convection is its a small space you heat up instead of a big oven wasting fuel. the convection is more energy efficient.

Thank you very kind.
As you know being a sculptor/dollartist you have to wear alot of hats! Sculptor, hairstylist, painter, seamstress, prob maker, photographer. My photos have never been too great. No excuse really except that by the time I do all the art Im burnt out to do the photos up right. I need to retire my dogeared black card backdrop for a fresh one.

LindaJaneThomas In reply to Sleetwealth [2007-10-30 01:23:33 +0000 UTC]

Bad photos are my thing.

It's true. By the time I'm finally get done with the doll the last thing I want to do is labor over the photos.

However, with your sculpts, you could stick them in the privy and your talent would still glow.
