A Mulher Árvore é uma assombração cuja lenda é uma das muitas associadas à construção da Estrada de Ferro Madeira Mamoré (EFMM) em Porto Velho, Rondônia. Conta-se que enquanto viva, ela era uma mulher que tinha um relacionamento com um dos engenheiros que trabalhavam na construção da rodovia. Uma versão da lenda diz que ela não suportava mais viver na cidade, e que sua tristeza e depressão a levaram ao suicídio. Outra versão afirma que na verdade ela teria se suicidado após uma briga com o engenheiro, que era na verdade seu amante.

Após sua morte, ela foi enterrada no Cemitério da Candelária, que havia sido construído para sepultar os muitos homens que morreram durante a construção da ferrovia. Com o tempo, surgiram relatos de trabalhadores de que um ser que misturava características de uma mulher e de uma árvore andava pelos trilhos da ferrovia em noites de lua cheia. Por ter cometido o pecado do suicídio, a mulher teria sido amaldiçoada e uma castanheira que ficava próxima ao seu túmulo o destruiu e se fundiu ao seu corpo, fazendo com que ela desperte em noites de lua cheia e caminhe pela região chorando e se lamentando, além de deixar um rastro de destruição por onde passa.

The Tree Woman is a haunting whose legend is one of many associated with the construction of the Madeira Mamoré Railroad (EFMM) in Porto Velho, Rondônia. It is said that while alive, she was a woman who had a relationship with one of the engineers working on the construction of the highway. One version of the legend says that she couldn't stand living in the city anymore, and that her sadness and depression drove her to suicide. Another version claims that she actually committed suicide after a fight with the engineer, who was actually her lover.

After her death, she was buried in the Candelária Cemetery, which had been built to bury the many men who died during the construction of the railroad. Over time, reports emerged from workers that a being that mixed characteristics of a woman and a tree walked along the railroad tracks on nights of a full moon. For having committed the sin of suicide, the woman would have been cursed and a chestnut tree that was close to her tomb destroyed it and merged with her body, causing her to wake up on full moon nights and walk around the region crying and lamenting, as well as leaving a trail of destruction wherever it goes.

Its use is allowed as long as the author (Rodrigo Viany) is mentioned.
