We finally finished the project I've been working on at my studio for the past ... well, long time.
Check out the website: www.round6.net

I also opened a development blog for whoever's interested in the work processes at: [link]

Hope you enjoy it!

congrats, man! I understand this is kind of your "baby", this project. must feel awesome to see it come to fruition so beautifully.
the colour, lighting and backgrounds are especially fantastic, i think. i know a few people who'd love to play a game like that.

how on earth did you get the idea to integrate football with shooters? that's such a strange mix, it seems to me...

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Slight-Shift In reply to BabushkaYaga [2010-03-06 19:16:20 +0000 UTC]

Thanks!
It feels more like a relief, I'm not pleased with the result - just with the fact that I saw it through.
The game idea is actually not in such a high correlation with the movie - it goes deeper than a football shooter.

BabushkaYaga In reply to Slight-Shift [2010-03-06 23:10:53 +0000 UTC]

i'm curious, what are you displeased about?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Slight-Shift In reply to BabushkaYaga [2010-03-07 18:48:18 +0000 UTC]

Really?
Most of the things. The way the story came out, how I directed and shot it, the colors and general lighting and render quality - the footage was raped in compositing regarding how far it was taken from the way it came out of rendering -...
Also, there's a few shots the animation doesn't work in.
Also, we should have done better matte paintings and parallax.
Also, the sound and music could both be much better - we were forced by budget and deadlines to do it very hastily.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

BabushkaYaga In reply to Slight-Shift [2010-03-10 16:07:25 +0000 UTC]

wow... that's harsh. I mean, I totally get your sentiment, I get the same with myself when i finish a project.

I'm curious as to why this idea was picked up in particular? I mean, why this story, this world? you imply that there's a bigger world conceptualized for this... why is it important to you or the studio to produce this?

sorry if i'm Χ—Χ•Χ€Χ¨Χͺ. you dont have to answer.

anyways, i do agree there are a few shots where the animation is a letdown, but the backgrounds, lighting and colour were truly awesome. i mean, really. something i'd put in my "inspiration" folder for later reference.

did you enjoy the process, at least, if the result is not to your liking?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Slight-Shift In reply to BabushkaYaga [2010-03-14 18:20:58 +0000 UTC]

Well, there's a much bigger world from which this was born, but it's of no consequence. At least for the time being.
For me and the studio this was an opportunity to do a fun project, learn a lot on a personal and production level, and show off some stuff either that fluffy dogs... I'm hoping this will help us get some more interesting projects.

I enjoyed the process very much, barur. I wanna go again!

Damn that was beautiful! Everything looked great, you should be proud of yourselves! If you don't mind me asking, were did you go to school? I wanted to work In Computer Animation(or GameArt) after Community College and I'm trying to find the best place to go. It looks like you learned a lot and If I could make something look half as good as this I'd be happy.

Slight-Shift In reply to SparkyPantsMcGee [2010-03-06 06:36:56 +0000 UTC]

Thanks for the compliments.
I actually have no formal education. And I think it's best to start fiddling around with things before you go to study. Most people I know who got/are getting a formal education in the states or Canada have at least a couple years of self teaching beforehand. That way you also know what specific field inside 3D animation you're interested in. It's impossible to know everything

Ah ok, I have the Maya demo on my computer. I fiddle around with it every now and then but I don't exactly know what I'm doing. I guess I should go look up some tutorials or something.

I like it. One hell of a American Football match. The helm reminded me of FF: Spirits Within, and the armour piece looks amazing! Love the gun too! Gives a rather rugged and 'frontier' feel.

AkzdubzkA [2010-03-05 18:01:07 +0000 UTC]

Stunning work ! The atmosphere is perfectly rendered, as for sound and image. The respawn for the last stand was kind of Myst-like. The light, the sounds and the sudden transportation "somewhere"… I felt again the same way as when I first played to Riven (the so-called Myst II).
The most thrilling part is when Snap (it's his name, isn't it ?) starts breathing hard in his helmet, just as he is about to see the 'thing'. We can clearly feel the pressure, the fear, and it's truly communicative.

Anyway, three minutes of pure adrenalin ! Please make more. If you have the time…

Thanks. Much of what you liked is thanks to the great work the animators did here.
I want to make ONLY things like this, ALL THE TIME. So I'm doing whatever I can to make more

And I think you'd make them WELL !
When is the Starcraft animation coming up ? (I'm almost sure you'd love to make some Starcraft-related animation, having seen what your Starcraft-related digtal work looks like…)
Anyway, I'll be there for whatever's coming up next ! Trust me on this one buddy ^^

I'd love to have a try at beta testing, but I've always been too late. I'm the knid of guy that waits for the release… I've never been disappointed so far, with Blizzard games, I mean. Except for the deadline they'll never hold ! Anyway, can't wait to have dear SCII on my machine !

You'll love it. It's very loyal to the original gameplay, but looks and feels great, and has many interesting units and tactics.
