I believe it was a night in October 1999 that my friend, Jonathan, invited me to a show at the Chili Pepper. It was literally an underground club below the streets of Mayfair at Coconut Grove in Miami. The club was known for hosting raves and unforgettable live shows back in the day. This particular night an up-and-coming band from Iowa called SlipKnot was playing. So we dressed in our favorite JNCO jeans and Halloween makeup so his dad, Bill, could drive us to the show while we blasted SlipKnot in the car. The show was awesome in every aspect but the main thing that stood out to me was the drummer, Joey Jordison. When I say that he was out of this world that is an understatement! Anyone that knows me would know that I always carried a camera during those days. I had taken a disposable camera and took awesome pictures but unfortunately I lost it during the performance. We looked all over for it and even had security help us look but it wasn't meant to be. We also met some cool girls there which we never saw again. So many girls were there! It was a great time to be 14 before social media and technology took over. I have looked online for footage or pictures from this event but little is available. I have found some footage from a show at the Chili Pepper in Ft. Lauderdale from around the same timeframe but that was a separate venue where they also played. Shortly after this show SlipKnot would go on to be world famous! Everytime a dear musician passes it feels like a piece of my childhood is taken. I cherish memories forever!
