Description
There is a ghost doing handstands on my front lawn,wrist-deep in fresh soil. Her hands are birds
in flight.
It's late, but no one comes to take her home.
The pale moon offers a silver smile -
the clouds disapprove.
Too tired to dream, she buries her legs in sky.
Tonight she is invincible, untouchable,
this frail girl beneath the stars
this death in light.

There is a ghost doing handstands on my front lawn,
falling to her white knees. Her stare is a pane
of glass.
The eyes of the living are often murky but
the eyes of the gone
are windows.

I....don't know exactly where my love for this poem ends. It keeps soaring. I keep wanting more of it. This poem is an experience. I feel like I know her. I like how spiritual this is. I like that it lacks the haunted-ness that I assumed would follow a girl-ghost around when a human is writing about her. It's like I'm seeing her through the eyes of something that knows.Β
A well-deserved daily deviation, I'd say.

I'll admit that I don't usually like poetry.Β But stuff like this....Β You just HAVE to like it.Β It's deep, haunting, and well-written.Β The kind of thing you want framed and hung in your living room for everyone to see.Β

This piece had me looking out upon a front lawn (not mine i'm sure) and seeing some queer looking spirit doing something peculiar... you had me in the place seeing the story unfold.

Surely if the ghost is wrist-deep in soil her hands are quite far from being in any sense birds in flight? The logic of the image suggests, instead, they are, likewise, buried in the earth.Β
