Description

-Characters: Wei Wuxian and Lan Wangji
-Anime/Novel/Comic: Mo Dao Zu Shi

Opened SAI to do some random sketching before I resume making the comic and before I knew it, I was drawing these two again.

(SPOILER ALERT: This scene is something that happens in the novel, when Wuxian gets Wangji drunk for the shits and giggles, which doesn't reflect on Wangji's face, but it most certainly does in his behaviour, which leads to Wuxian's hands getting tied up by Wangji with his head ribbon and which eventually leads to some very funny and some sexy moments between these two. <3 R.I.P. Wuxian, you dug your own grave. P.S. Titled the sketch "Mine", because that's what Wangji says to Wuxian, when Wuxian gets him drunk the very first time, sometime before this, since apparently he already thinks that Wuxian belongs to him, despite Wuxian having no idea that Wangji is in love with him.)

Ye. Fingers crossed that they won't just censor it aka skip most of it like they did with the cave scenes ... Like ... what's the point of even making this into an anime if the most important stuff between the two MCs gets censored (aka flat out deleted from the story or completely changed)? =_=

But tbf I'm more excited to see more of Jiang Cheng's adult self. Personality wise he deserves a few bitch-slaps (altho I completely understand him, he had it rough in life and not being loved by your own parents can be tough) but damn does he look fine.Β  Β Β Kinda sad that he doesn't end up with anyone in the story. Imo having him end up with a girl from the Wen clan would be an interesting twist, to decrease his hatred towards the entire Wen clan a little (a nice, sensible girl like Wen Ning's sister was, who didn't want to slaughter everyone that wasn't from her clan, like the rest of them did). That's definitely what I'd go for if I was the author of that story, so that the romance wouldn't be centered around the MCs only, plus the drama potential of that would be insane haha.

China unfortunately, to my knowledge, has a ban on openly showing homosexuality on tv, but maybe there will be an alt version that adds in those missing scenes at the very least. (I can hope)

Cheng with a Wen girl would be an interesting twist, she would have to be someone that met him under a false name though for it to work.

It could also be that we might get a more extended flashback of certain scenes, since WuXian doesn't have that great a memory anyways, and certain things happen in "current" time trigger memories and thoughts for him, it could be like an oh yeah that did happen then didn't it ... because there's a lot of "current" time that hasn't been shown and a lot more flashback than should have happened by the 2nd day WuXian is brought to Cloud Recesses (at last). So, the pacing for the anime is already different anyways.

Ye, that's exactly what I was thinking (since plenty of Wens abandoned their clan after Wens got owned). It would present a big dilemma to Jiang Cheng - "I love her but she's a Wen" kind of situation, after he'd find out (karma for getting the precious Wen siblings killed). Would be an interesting twist, but sadly the author has decided to give Jiang Cheng the single pringle status. :'3

Yeah, they've decided to show the past events in the anime first and then I guess the other two seasons will be about the present - I imagine the 2nd one will end somewhere around where they realize that Mo is in fact Wuxian. Imo they went about it the right way, since the author really wrote it in a very confusing way by suddenly shifting to the past events in the middle of the chapter. Altho idk how the structure looked like in the original version (Chinese) but when it comes to the translated version, you can hardly tell when the story suddenly shifts to the past evens until later on when you realize that suddenly there's a bunch of different people present in the scene and the scene is about something else now. In my books I prefer to separate "long ass flashbacks from the past" from "present events" into their own separate chapter, in order to not confuse the reader (if flashbacks are super super short tho, I do keep them in that same chapter, but I make it 100% clear that it's a flashback).

yeah, I really don't like the randomness of the flashbacks ... it threw me off timing wise while reading a couple times. One line they're flying on their sword the next moment they open their eyes but it's in the past and not realizing it for like 10 paragraphs was bad. They almost did it in the anime too, if not for the subtle time stamp in the corner I would not have realized with the way they make Mo and WuXian look the exact same.Β
Finding out he is indeed WuXian would be a good season cliff hanger though.

As far as Cheng having a Wen girl one could always try to write an afterwards fan-fiction about it, though the issue there becomes making it actually believable so not just anyone could write it up. Maybe some OVA episodes about something like that would be cool too, depending on how it's done.

Yeah, it confused the living hell out of me, especially the one with the flashback within the flashback - I had no idea wtf was going on anymore lol.
And yeah, that thing also confused me in the anime - thankfully someone that has already read the novel (anime introduced me to this novel) has explained in the comments that the first two episodes were the present and the rest of them were a flashback. I've actually dropped the anime after the first 2 or 3 eps, because I didn't know what was going on, but eventually, since there weren't many good animes airing and since I really liked the art in this one, I picked it up again after reading quite a few chapters of the novel first (I rewatched all anime episodes when I finally knew wtf was going on tnx to the novel). The story is absolutely amazing and so are the characters, but the way of telling the story is confusing af. And again idk how it looked like in the Chinese version - as far as I've heard it's not confusing in the Chinese version, so I guess the author properly made it clear that the story was switching to flashback mode - but the English version is just terrible, you never know when a flashback begins or ends. I wish those that are translating it would at least put some space in between, make a new paragraph or something, instead of suddenly switching to the flashback in the middle of that same paragraph.

True, but I don't really like fan-fictions when it comes to books. I prefer to see people respect the author's decisions and how the story went, since I personally also wouldn't want to see people making up things that weren't present in my story (I'm also a writer). It does suck tho that the author didn't do something more in regards to Jiang Cheng, because he's also an amazing character and I think many would love to see him get a happy ending as well (as much as I adore Wuxian, Jiang Cheng just doesn't seem to want to stop being my fav. character in this story for some reason x3 he does deserve to be slapped for how badly he treats his poor nephew tho - maybe Ning should break his arm again, since Cheng keeps threatening that poor boy that he's gonna break his legs n stuff =_= ). And I'm definitely up for that kind of OVA haha. Would be nice if the author could come up with something for that poor forever single pringle - at least give him a doggie ffs, since he loves them so much. x'D

Oh gods yeah, a flashback within a flashback is the most confusing thing ever.Β

Him having a dog at least would be really nice.

I suggest you go read the novel instead, it's a lot better than manga imo and it's already translated up to ch.70 (out of 116-ish chapters) and it gets a new ch. update roughly every 3 days. : )

[SPOILER ALERT]
And these two are cannon, so no need to worry, they will end up together in the end and they'll even adopt a kid. <3 ^^
(I've already read all the spoilers, cuz I love getting stuff spoiled, unlike most people. x3)

Wen Ning needs more love, all he's getting so far is smacks and kicks. x'3
Wen Ning is more like his mommy, making sure that his kiddo is safe (he's really been taking care of Wuxian in the last few chapters), and Wangji is just being straight up hostile towards his soon to be mother-in-law (because no one ever likes their mother-in-law).Β
