Description The Jewel of the Great Smoky Mountains, Princess Eleanor, the magnificent 3/17 Balaban 2 Style Mighty WurliTzer Theatre Pipe Organ installed at the historic Tennessee Theatre on Gay Street in downtown Knoxville, Tennessee. This incredible music machine was placed in the building in 1928 and opened to a packed house on October 1st of that same year. It was made by the WurliTzer Company in Tonawanda, New York. In 2001, the entire organ was restored to like new condition by Ken Chrome of Reno, Nevada, with additions to the pipework which made it a truly world class instrument. It is one of only two such organ in the world, the other being a larger 4/28 installation at the beautiful Alabama Theatre in Birmingham, Alabama, also opened in 1928.
