Description For re-opening of The Wire Artisans Guild’s Team store, the members all created pieces on the theme the movie Stardust.

I LOVE that film. I have seen it… ehh… many times and was thrilled to bits when I heard about the theme. I immediately started to plan for the piece and had a vision of a more modern, contemporary piece based on Claire Dane’s light and airy character ‘Yvaine’ to clash with the Victorian feeling in the film. Yeah…. about that.

This necklace - heavily influenced by the Victorian era and the dark and wicked character of Michelle Pfeiffer ‘Lamia’ - is probably as far away from my initial thoughts as a necklace possibly can be. But that is the way of my Muse. I and I do not question my Muse.

~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~
When Lamia has set out on her chase after Yvaine, she stops with her goat-pulled carrier on a high cliff and asks the runes which way to go. As she stands there, gazing out over the barren landscape, with her black dress with layer upon layer of black chiffon bellowing behind her, she is perfectly confident of her upcoming triumphs. That scene inspired The Wicked Ways…

An oval frame was wrapped with hair thin sterling silver wire and within it I wrapped gorgeous dark red faceted rondelles of Garnet. Little swirled elements are wrapped on top of the frame and sparkly Black Spinel briolettes are woven to the connections. I then crocheted a …. (shall we call it a little doily?) and wrapped it as a backdrop for the Garnet and Black Spinel oval. To increase the Victorian feeling to the necklace even further, I added some chains and a single, simply wrapped Black Spinel briolette.

A chain – interrupted by some Black Spinel faceted rondelles and Bali spacer beads – leads up to my hand made hook style clasp.

Dark and mysterious and heavily laden with an era long gone, The Wicked Ways … might just cast a spell on you.

Total length 53cm (21in.).
The outer crocheted rim is just over 6cm (2.4in.) across and the total drop of the focal is 8cm (3.1in.).
