There is a very solid effect that can be gained from the use of a repeating motif; be it in the geometry of arabesques, the spiraling repetition of fractals, or in any other method that can be reduced to a single, discrete set of building blocks...or in this case, block.

The viewer is introduced to a meta-question, in the form of a question(s) enclosed in a box desnoted with a question-mark. Nothing says if the blocks contain something unknown, or if they represent something exogenous to the image. Why they are clustered also gives no hint.

The viewer is otherwise left with a symbolic representation of the very nature of inquiry or an engima. The technique used to render is clean, unobtrusive and grabs the eye, but does not lack subtle detail.

Haven't seen that shadowing technique anywhere...
What program are you using, the shadows are all fadish.

Part of me feels like Mario and Luigi would be in la-la land if they stumbled upon this.

Good ol' smash render.

Beautiful work! The shadows are completely dead-on ... even with a computer, that's hard to do!

Love the subject matter, too.

So I wrote a critique, and spared the Mario Bros references, as I figured if you are going to take this totally meta, I may as well be as stuffy and artsy-fartsy as possible :}

Hah. Well thanks for taking the time out to do so, I don't think I've gotten one before -- I just check the request critique by default now.

interesting interpretation of the boxes, surrounded in a wooden frame.

Very creative!

Very good piece and idea. Why not one box slightly ajar as to tease what's actually inside them?

Please give your thoughts on the frames around the boxes because otherwise my Mario-isity will just scream:
"There's no frame in the games!"
Then I say "but it's just a different look"
"But it's incorrect!"
"It's art it doesn't need to be!"
"But he might think that's how they normally look, we can't have somebody being wrong on the internet!"

Then I spiral into madness.
Very cool looking anyway.

Wow.. well...they say there aren't any stupid questions anyway I like the boxes... they're stacked all haphazardly and I'm sure there must be an answer to at least one of those questions inside.

that's pretty cool
the box on the bottom in the middle, could use 2-sided-redering or a bit of PS correction

Very interesting concept, crates instead of metal boxes... I'm wondering, did you use a gravity simulator to get the final arrangement?

Yep, why not.

I have a pyramid in my mind which collapses later. The collapse full of mysteries to the outsiders and to insiders it's all clear, pyramid collapsed just because of them, they, I mean some of the possibly lost cubes that we don't see in the image. Ehm, that's all
