Description                                                                              Prologue

In eons past, before the birth of mankind and all other mortal races, the earth was inhabited by an immortal race of being known today as The Fae. The Fae ruled over the world and its creatures by harnessing the duplicitous power of nature between two courts. The two fae courts reigned in harmony with one another: The Seelie Court, or The Court of Light, celebrated summer and spring, life and birth; whereas The Unseelie Court, or The Court of Shadow, celebrated winter and fall, death and decay.
All fae, seelie and unseelie alike cared not for any power beyond their stations of balancing the forces of nature, until the war of Heaven came to Earth. When The Fae witnessed the power of angels and demons and saw how the war between them left the world barren, scarred from their battles, The Fae wished nothing more than to protect their world. Desperate to curtail the fate of their existence that Heaven’s war promised, the two courts alienated themselves from each other, broken by opposing ideals.

Generations passed as Heaven and Hell battled restlessly. The war raged on, blanketing the earth, and several groups of fae had made covenants with either side. They used their powers against the angels and demons, and even other fae as they found each other on opposite sides. As the opposing factions collided –those who had aligned themselves with demons and those who allied with the angles- The Fae grew to loath one another as they slew their ancient brethren in combat. All seemed lost as the world began to drown in the blood of immortals; angels, demons, and fae alike. But then -as the damnation of the earth proved inevitable- a faction of fae, allied by both repentant demons and forbearing angels, rose up against all others to save their beloved world. They called themselves The Watchers, and were ever vigilant as they staunched the flow of both forces -of Heaven and Hell- until the war subsided. Neither side could gain advantage over the other as long as The Watchers stood guard over their world, giving no ground for battles to find, and no quarter to any demon, angel or fae who sought to begin the war anew.

As the war ended and The Watchers began to cleanse the earth, of the stains of battle that had left it rotted and barren, the mortal races were being born. Born from the dust of earth and the sludge of war, the mortal races appeared as their own blight upon the earth in the eyes of some immortals. But The Old Ones, the leaders of The Watchers and the last reigning hierarchy of power, saw that as the seasons change so must the inhabitants of the world. The Old Ones knew the time of immortals was passing, and as they saw how quickly the mortal races populated the world, they decided to pass on their knowledge. The Old Ones sought out champions of every race and taught them the lore of The Old Ones’ power. The mortal champions then received titles as leaders of The Watchers. And then The Old Ones blessed their champions, knowing that eventually the champions’ mortal bodies would fade away with age, so that they would be reincarnated upon death.

Centuries later, an era of peace birthed a new fertile world and the mortal races lived in prosperity, cultivating the earth together in kinship. But this peace did not last long, for the mortals began to wage war against the humans –or Humes, as The Fae call them- simply because they had procreated more quickly than any other race and were thought to be a threat.

The Watchers tried to prevent the devastation that followed, but no one -no watcher, mortal or immortal, nor The Old Ones themselves- could have ever imagined the strength of the humes; their thirst for life and their lust for revenge.

                                                                       .   .   .

In the year 2010, after several millennia of merciless slaughter the humans have become the prominent species of earth, and The Watchers have disappeared, vanishing into myth. Only whispers remain of the once great Watchers; whispers of their demise, whispers of their return and whispers of whether or not they even existed. Humans have all but forgotten their true history, believing the ancient stories to be myth. And all humes have grown weak in their ignorance -their senses have been dulled; cauterized by the fires of their past and the isolation of their dominance- and are no longer able to see the Mana that flows through the worlds leylines. True magic has left the world and humans are now all but blind to the supernatural. Now in the height of the humans rule, the remnants of their past gather strength within the darkness of their shadow and prepare for a war that will rid the earth of all humanity. The only hope that now exists for all humes to survive is for the long awaited reappearance of The Watchers.
