Simba: So Kovu how did you sleep last night?
Kovu: I slept quite well thank you.
Simba: Well, I'm glad you were very comfortable. And I can see that you really like spending time with Kiara.
Kovu: I do, Simba. You Pride Landers aren't all that bad after all.
Simba: All that bad"? You're kidding. Is that what you thought about us?
Kovu: That's what I was trained to think about you. But Simba, I want to ask you something-- it's... It's about Scar.
Simba: Go on. I'm listening.
Kovu: As far as I've been told, Scar wanted to rule the Pride Lands, and, in spite of his obvious capabilities, he was denied his chance. He had to take the throne by force. My mother says that you killed Scar, but... To be honest, you don't seem like a killer. Can you tell me the truth about Scar?
Simba: Well, I want to set some things straight first- I didn't kill Scar. Actually, I have no idea what happened to him.
Kovu: What?! That sounds a bit vague...
Simba: I actually don't know what happened to him. All I ever told him to do was to leave, and never come back. He turned around and attacked me. I defended myself by using a special kick that Nala taught me. All I saw was that he flew off the cliff, and landed on the ground unconscious.
I was told by some of the lionesses that they saw the hyenas gathering together at the bottom of the cliff, and they know that Scar was eaten by the hyenas. I didn't kill him. Never wanted to.
Kovu: Oh... So, my mom was wrong?
Simba: Yes she was. And, Scar didn't have any ruling capability. He was very greedy, and bent on killing my dad and I, even when I was just a cub.
Kovu: When you were a cub? But that's so... Cruel.
Simba: Scar was hell-bent on getting rid of me and my dad, and, he finally got what he wanted. He first tried to kill me by tricking me into going to the Elephant Graveyard, which is forbidden territory. I was almost eaten by hyenas, but then my dad came and rescued me. He lost that time, but then, he tried again by starting a wildebeest stampede. He had succeeded in killing my dad, but I escaped.
But, retribution always comes in the end. You reap what you sow.
Kovu: But why would he hurt a little cub? You're lucky that you escaped...
Simba: Yeah I know for you see Scar couldn't let go of his hate... And in the end, it destroyed him completely.
Kovu: I've never heard the story of Scar that way. He truly was a killer.
Simba: Fire is a killer. But sometimes, what's left behind can grow better than the generation before... If given the chance.

Righteous. As a reward, here's a little known fact about the Lion King II: When Kiara offers to help Zira up from falling into the flooded gorge, Zira was originally say "Never!" and basically commit suicide, but the animators deemed this too dark for them.
