Description I claim this to be the most accurate Canis dirus restoration.

Blackness, melanin, its deposition on the outside surface of an animal's body/fur as an indication of particular strength in that area, interesting theory?

Hyenas have black face/mouths, why not mr Dirus, after all, his skull and jaw was significantly more powerful than those of modern wolves.

Modern canids, including wolves and even dogs have a characteristic stripe, pattern along their shoulder, trapezius latissimus dorsi area. I argue that that is because of their highly cursorial locomotion that area is also particularly powerful and in abundant use.

Challenge me...

BAOOOOOOOOOOOOO, imagine the bloodcurdling, deep baso howl of an alpha male dire wolf reverberating over the landscape which is now LA.

Interesting take! What's with the supersized muzzle? Or are they undersized ears...?

canis dirus did have a proportinaly larger head than grey wolves so maybe that?
