Great shot of a lovely lady! That's an Argiope trifasciata. They have distinctive leg and belly markings.

So many Ariopes in the SpiderLovers community!

The image is about 20% larger than life, I'd just received a Nikon macro lens as an early Christmas present and I felt as if I needed to thank my brother by using it well.
It was taken in the marsh with the camera resting on a bean bag used by target shooters to steady their aim.

I have a couple of others taken the same day on my site, please take a look.

Thanks, SMF

I just saw, you had a few spiders out there. Nice shots of them.
Check this out [link]
I shot that with a 105 Ai Nikkor + extension tubes.

Cool...that guy is great. I hope to get better, those were my first
ever attempts at "live" macro. I really hate the wind, both riding
my bike and close-up photos.
I'm practicing, I've been collecting moss for a micro-forest photo.
Lighting and color are really difficult for me to handle.
I've never used artificial light before, but it's fun learning.

for your first attempts they were excellent.
i looked to see what you were shooting with, are you using a prime micro lens? if not, get one, that will help. longer the focal length the better. most people prefer the 90-105 range, but I usually use my 55mm AF Micro-Nikkor just because it is usually on my camera. and also, I see your shooting with nikon gear so dont worry about settings if you're shooting bugs and outdoor macro. just adjust the aperture if you want to expand the depth of field, the camera/lens will take care of the lighting and color for you. if you're using a flash outside just do some test shots to get the exposure correct, and blast away. you should use a flash, but you need a longer lens, or an offset flash bracket to get around a shorter lens. just keep at it, you've gotten to a good start!
