Wondering what your thoughts are on my concept for alolan natu and xatu. I think a Natu based on the I'iwi (e-E-vee) bird or "Hawaiian honeycreeper," would be very interesting. The small bird is one of the most iconic and prolific across all the islands and would make a fantastic based for a Pokémon. I lived in Hawaii for a while and saw them everywhere. As far as design the I'iwi bird is bright red and has a highly curved beak for sipping nectar. Natu could migrate to Hawaii and take on bright red plumage in accordance with its lush volcanic surroundings. When it evolved into Xatu the totemic markings could easily be replaced with more indigenous Hawaiian tribal designs, which would allow it to still resemble its original form yet also adapt to its new surroundings. As for typing I have two possible ideas: Natu/Xatu will lose its psychic typing in favor of either fire or grass. Fire comes from both its bright red coloration and proximity volcanic terrain. The fire/flying type would keep its stats relatively similar to take advantage of the special fire moves. Ability could be flame body. Grass would be due to the birds specialized hooked beak for drinking nectar and it's proximity to lush landscapes. The grass/flying types hooked beak would sharpen like a sickle and take on a physical attacking stat to make use of leaf/solar blade. Ability would very fittingly be sap sipper.

What is it based on? Also, I think since Natu is based on a North American Totem Pole thingy, maybe Alolan Natu should be a bit tiki-themed...Then again, it could be stereotyping

OOOO what a strange and appealing design! I'm surprised by this, like I said, I wasn't sure how you would do one, what you would do, but this is pretty neat! I can't wait to see it's evolution! I'd love to hear more of WHY it's developed that way, what caused it to change like this.
