It's because pencils are made of graphite. When I first saw this Pokémon's page i didn't really look at its typing and I swear I tought it was Rock/Grass.

Quite a genius design with a good inspiration from the real world. This is one of those cases where I can say, that someone's got a job done just as good if not better than the people over at Gamefreak's. Hopefully the evolution can live up to how well you executed the idea with this one.
