just an amazing thing ever even thought to move the whole planet? Good job I'm very impressed with me plus you have an idea of transporting the planets

This artwork is awesome, but I cant get around the complexity of why some alien or future humans race would build something like that. The frontal nodule of the ship is itself larger than any of the planets being transported, then theres the rings that hold each world and the train liike structure that connects each, not to mention the bubbles/domes around each. These in and of themselves are engineering marvels greater than the planets themeselves. Why not just find new worlds? Why not evacuate the planets? Why not use teleportation to make the move? Surely a race as advanced as the one that built the ship could do such things. Amazing visual though.

There are problems with your three suggestions. If you try to find new worlds, you may be too late. Evacuating a planet isn't always easy; if the planet you are trying to evacuate is near a star that is about to go supernova, you only have a limited amount of time before the planet is wiped cleanof life (and possibly off the universal map). And teleportation isn't that simple. Just watch Transformers 3: Dark of the Moon; they created a space bridge, which is a teleportation device, but when it was destroyed, so was everything that had passed through it. Also, this is a way to preserve a planet's ecosystems without having to terraform a new planet.

lenlenlen1 In reply to Carrier2 [2014-08-06 06:18:43 +0000 UTC]

A supernova doesn't happen suddenly. There are tons of signs thatΒ a star is in decay long before it actually explodes. A society as advanced as this would have the technology to see a supernova coming years before it happened.
Transformers 3: Dark of the Moon is not anywhere near a reliable source of information... on anything. Please, never a Michael Bay movie as anything more than entertainment. Again, a society as advanced as this wouldΒ have workedΒ out any issues involved in teleportation long before they used it onΒ an entire planet.Β
As for preserving a planets eco-system they could terraform a lifeless world, releasing heat from its core, bringing out water trapped in its soil and polar caps, andΒ introducing vegetation, to create a liveable climate. Much easier for a society with this many resources than building a ship that carries planets.
Thanks for the debate. Good hunting!

All your points are valid and I were aware of them even while making this picture. I simply didn't care because amazing visual was my go, not creating something that future NASA would use same day in the distant future - and those viewpoints also make the visual experience even more striking. So, perhaps we could see this as some sort of lame surrealism. At least it was puzzling enough for that amount of feedback, and I thank you for that. Cheers!

I hope you realize that I wasnt faulting the art, which is great, more the concept. And yes, thats why I love sci-fi more than fantasy, because it brings up such questions and thoughts and conversations in a way that fantasy doesnt. With fantasy you can just say "but its magic" and that solves the problem. With sci-fi more logical thought is necessary.

Yes, I do realize that. I too prefer sci-fi over fantasy - however, this is a space opera-type of picture, not hard sci-fi, no nothing to be taken too seriously. Like I said, I agree with everything you said. Main motive in this pic is to show something technological in very large scale, logic gets the 2nd place in this scenery. Size over sense, that's the concept here.

Being a SciFi fan, I can just say I love this picture. I was instantly reminded of the various races in the Perry Rhodan SciFi series that built entire solar systems to their like.
Awesome work!

Thank you, good sir.
I have never heard of Perry Rhodan SciFi series, but I take your word for it. I got very little truly original ideas but this thing came out of my own head - and even it is based on those endless gigantic wheel around planet-type of pictures, that we SciFi fans see everywhere - including, but not limited to . Anyhow, thanx for loving the big ship!

You're welcome!
Perry Rhodan is a German SciFi series, one issue per week, current one is number 2537 ([link] ). Some of the books have been translated to the English language. I haven't read any of the English ones yet, but I think it's save to recommend them to other SciFi fans
Keep on with your good work dude!

Well, Perry Rhodan looks to be quite impressive accomplish in it's long run and many other aspects.
Yes, I try to keep my visuals flowing and improving if I can. (=

With all the resources it took to build that planet-carrier... you could have built an artificial planet.
But nothing beats the "look at what I got" moment.
