Description A fandom does not dictate the quality of a show, Movie or video game. It’s the product itself. I think Scar said it best.

Scar: I’m surrounded by idiots.

Got that right Scar. I’ll be in the angry dome.

Whenever I set up reviews, I usually expressed my own opinions and interpretations of how things should go. I used to review media based on the fandom's perspective until I grew out of it as time went by. As the guy who broken down two cartoons and certain films already, I rather go on my own path follow what everyone else thinks because, in reality, you can't depend on what focus groups think.

Good to know, besides focus groups aren’t that great to depend on

Exactly. It's best to avoid getting involved and stick to your own terms.

I know, right?! Seriously, if you like the show, then you shouldn't have to be afraid of being labeled with all the whack-jobs and assholes. If that were an issue, then Christianity would suffer a massive blow to their numbers with people leaving in droves out of fear of being associated with Kevin Sorbo, Pat Robertson, and Kirk Cameron.

That’s true. I’m Christian but I’m not like the whack jobs in my religion. Like how I’m part of some toxic fandoms, but I’m one of the good fans.

Exactly my point. There’s no reason to call an ENTIRE fandom “toxic” or “horrible” when there are completely normal, decent people who also share a love for the same thing. Not every Rick & Morty fan is a pretentious nihilistic shitbag, not every Loud House fan is into incest and perpetuating asinine fan theories that were debunked already, not everyone on 8chan is a fascist shitposter/wannabe hacktivist (its actually isolated to certain threads, but those niches are pretty expansive), there are SJW’s who do try to spearhead major paradigm shifts to help marginalized/outcast groups and not college dipshits and femenazis who will think everyone who’s straight/cisgendered/white/male are 1000% evil villainous monsters, and so on and so on.

Yeah and not everyone in the Steven Universe and Loud House fandoms are SJWs.

The problem is that to those people the bad overshadows the good.

I agree, I like Shows, Movies & Games for what they are & fandom doesn't affect that.

I have to agree with you on that. However I can't blame people that do this.

The toxic side of a fandom tends to be the most loud and heard. Making many people think they are the majority when in truth they are the minority. This in turn causes the brave few good fans to call out this toxic side publicly. This in turn causes more people to speak out. The more bad that gets known and exposed, the more it turns people away. Fearing that as a fan of something, they will be associated with the bad members and things as a whole. In basic terms, it doesn't matter if the show/movie/game is good or not, what matters is what kind of people are attracted or influenced by it.

I myself am guilty of judging something because of a fandom. In this case it was Netflix's Voltron. I've been hearing a lot of good things and passing it up. Once I started getting interested in watching it, I started to hear about the toxic side of the fandom. In fact all I've heard was bad things. This in turn made me steer away from watching Voltron even more. I was afraid that if I started to show my interest in it, I would be instantly branded as part of the toxic fandom.

Good people in a fandom get ignored and/or lumped together with the toxic side. It's mob mentality, something that often doesn't end well.

I know. Which is why this the last time I do something like this.

But I just wish some people can ignore the the toxic side and enjoy the entertainment

LawfulStudios9646 In reply to Smoking-Wrecker2814 [2019-05-14 19:54:12 +0000 UTC]

That's the thing, we shouldn't just ignore them completely. Calling them out might make some of them stop doing what they do.

But what we should be doing is not just calling them out, but also at the same time promote the good fans. The ones that aren't a part of the toxic fandom. We must find a blance of exposing the bad and promoting the good.

LawfulStudios9646 In reply to Smoking-Wrecker2814 [2019-05-14 20:15:14 +0000 UTC]

Best example, promote the most well known good fans. The truly dedicated ones that wish to introduce what they love to others, thus sharing enjoyment of something entertaining. At the same time, find undiscovered good fans, ones that make or do something interesting but don't get much attention. Showing the good fans have talent and are doing something with it because of their love for a show/movie/videogame.

By promoting the good fans. We show that the show/movie/videogame is worth giving a shot and might be good enough to make people say they are a fan.

You cannot bash a show because of the fandom unless said fandom is canon.

I know that I have bashed MLP because of the fandom but I also dislike the show for other reasons.

Here's one I can relate to, the newer Need for Speed games. They're mocked just because of the arcade-y physics, stupid.
