Redesign of Beatrix from Final Fantasy 9. Reckon I'll draw her again with the hood up eventually. I aimed to give her some elements of the traditional Paladin look crossed with a Spaghetti Western style Musketeer, if such a thing even exists.
I drew her mirrored in pencils then traced her, painted over the trace with watercolours, traced the original again then placed that over the paint, then I inked that with pens and markers and rubbed away the pencils. Then I scanned it into a computer box and had to jigsaw her back together.

Nice job on the redesign! You kept parts of the original design--the hair, the eye patch, the confidence in her gaze--and made the outfit more practical. Plus, I LOVE the cape. It flows so perfectly (and...I just love them. always have).

Thanks! I knew from the off that she was going to have too have some kind of robe/cape/cloak/poncho thing to help her outfit keep a level of authority. When I have spare time everyone from FF9 will get a redesign I think.

I love your style, and the redesign looks something akin to an earlier, less decorated part of her military career. I'd love to see the hood up version! Great to see someone give her the muscular tone she's likely to have IRL too.
My only nitpick would be that the armor is on the wrong arm...it's more sensible that her 'blind side' be the one covered up, and not left vulnerable.

Gracias, it's going to be a little while I've got a few other things to draw first but I'll let you know when it's done. Yeah when I draw anyone from that game I try to give them a bit more of a realistic figure. Aah nitpickings good, when I was sketching her she had both gauntlets but it didn't really balance well with the sword. So I've reduced her life expectancy somewhat purely for creative license, tut tut.
