Koda trudge along the snowy path. the snow crunching under his feet. He let out a shaky breath, forming a mist in the cold winter air. It had been nearly three weeks since he had left the nook and winter has been rough with food and low temperatures of course. within the first week, Koda had found himself a barren cave which he quickly set up to be his camp. Shelter had been easy for him to establish, he even found a few Coatala Tail plants which made for a comfortable place to sleep and learning fire magic had definitely proved useful against the frigid temperatures while earth allowed him to essentially grow a snack if he had the resource to do so.

Overall, Koda was faring better than he first imagined, no spite encounters (yet, he noted) despite being winter food was easy enough to get, even if he had to sometimes wonder farther away from camp from time to time, and his magic magic has been slowly improving over the past few weeks. He'd be lying if he said if was a cakewalk but it wasn't nearly as bad as he first pictured.

As he looked around for anything to catch or gather to eat, his ears perked up when he heard, voices? Out of instinct, Koda's glands started to glow a bright yellow as he tried to listen to what it was saying. There were two voices and they were still slightly muffled but Koda could piece the conversation enough.

"-just leave them here. They're worthless."

"but sir, one of them is ha-"

"Does it look like I care?"

"N-no sir"

"Then leave them there."

"Yes sir"

Koda stood still, arms wrapping around himself, he continued to listen, faint footsteps slowly fading until they were too far away for him to hear. Koda went towards where the voices were but stopped dead in his tracks when his ears caught another sound.

A sharp crack followed by a soft cry.

Before Koda knew it, he broke out into a sprint, his focus switching from enhanced hearing to moving quicker.
